Wait it out in an interior room away from windows. If you run a generator, keep it outside and at least 20 feet from doors and windows to keep carbon monoxide out of the house. Stay away from downed power lines, and follow updates from your local officials.

True or false: wet drywall will dry on its own.

False. The surface dries first and hides what is behind it. The paper facing, the insulation and the wall cavity can hold moisture for weeks after the room feels perfectly normal again.

That gap between “looks dry” and “is dry” is where most of the calls we get were born.
