There are more than one or two ways to give back to our communities. Each year, countless volunteers assist state and federal agencies with clearing trees from roads and trails that people use to access public lands. Some years there's hardly any blowdowns; however, this past winter was some of the worst the state has seen in many years.
Being a USFS certified sawyer volunteer, we spend time each year doing our part. This past weekend, I spent some time riding dirt bikes in eastern WA, then spent a day and a half clearing a forest service road that is part of the "Washington Backcountry Discovery Route" (look it up if you have never heard of it). This particular section was hit extremely hard, blowing down trees that were burned in a fire years ago. Many volunteers have spent countless hours trying to open up around 6 miles of this road. Between 2 of us, we spent a combined 17 hours cutting trees and clearing debris to open an additional 1.2 mile stretch of road. In one section, I counted 42 trees down in less than 100 yards.
It was relentless at times, only moving a few yards between blowdowns. After our time out there, more volunteers were able to finish the clearing, and the road is now open!

Officially starting a new "branch" of services for our clients! Tree work has been increasing as part of NW Dirt, Demo & Salvage, so we are officially launching under a new branding to reach more people.

Doug fir, alder and cedar trees being undermined by a beaver and flowing stream, causing them to lean towards a neighbor's property. The large doug fir, if it failed, would split the neighbor's house in half. Working with local and state biologists to received permission to remove the trees, leaving some of the trunk standing so wildlife still had a place to land and peck for bugs. A very challenging job.

A large, big leaf maple that was dying out and several tall alder trees leaning the wrong direction towards the neighbors.

A very large willow tree that finally gave up after years of providing shade for a house. The property owners were worried about it the other half falling on the house. Complete take down and clean up, including removing the wood.

A very large cottonwood tree that uprooted in a wind storm. No clean up, just opening up the trail for the property owner.
