Water stains on drywall can’t just be painted over.

Once the source of the moisture is corrected and the area is dry, the stain still needs to be sealed before repainting.

On this ceiling, we used shellac primer to lock in the discoloration and keep it from bleeding back through the finish coat.

The process is simple:

• Fix the moisture source
• Let the area dry
• Repair damaged drywall if needed
• Seal the stain with shellac primer
• Repaint for a consistent finish

Skipping the sealing step is how water stains come back through fresh paint.

I use this 3-step process every time we install new flooring.

Whenever we’re replacing or installing a floor, we focus just as much on what’s underneath as the flooring itself.

Step 1: Inspect the existing floor and subfloor for damage, movement, moisture, or uneven areas.

Step 2: Make the necessary repairs and prep the surface so the new flooring has a solid, flat base.

Step 3: Install the flooring according to the product requirements, including proper layout, spacing, and transitions.
