Custom Stone Garden Wall & Planting Design
This project is a good example of how a relatively small amount of stonework can completely change the look of a front yard. We built a custom natural stone garden wall to define the planting bed, work with the existing grade, and give the landscape a more finished appearance.
We also selected new plantings specifically for this area, taking into account the space, surrounding architecture, and how the plants will mature over time. The combination of natural stone, layered plantings, and mulch gives the front of the home more structure without overwhelming it.

We completed this large paver patio a few years ago for a great repeat client in the Clayton, NC area. Water Feature & Natural Stone Retaining Walls in Wake Forest, NC --

For this Wake Forest homeowner, we removed an older creek-bed and pond-style water feature and upgraded the area with custom natural stone retaining walls and integrated spillway waterfalls.

The new design works with the slope of the front yard, creating defined planting areas while making the water feature a much stronger focal point from the street and the home. The natural stone ties in beautifully with the stonework on the house and gives the whole front landscape a more intentional, finished look.

Complete Brick Patio Renovation in Cary, NC --

This Cary backyard needed a complete rebuild. The original brick patio had settled unevenly over the years, with high and low spots throughout the surface. We removed the brick, rebuilt the base properly, and reinstalled the patio according to industry standards for a much more durable, long-lasting result.

We also replaced the rotting wood steps with custom brick steps, built a lattice privacy screen to hide the trash cans, and removed an old landscape-timber wall and replaced it with natural stacked stone. Low-voltage landscape lighting was integrated throughout the patio, steps, and stonework to finish the space and make it more usable after dark.

Boulder Wall, Planting Design & Landscape Lighting in Clayton, NC --

This front yard in the Glen Laurel community in Clayton needed a better way to handle the slope and give the landscape a more finished look. We removed the old plant material, built a natural boulder wall to help define the grade, and redesigned the entire planting bed with a fresh mix of shrubs and ornamental plants.

We also added low-voltage pathway lighting through the bed and uplighting on the home to highlight the architecture after dark. The boulders give the slope a natural structure while the new plantings and lighting help tie the whole front yard together.

Custom Paver Patio in Coats, NC --

This Coats backyard was upgraded with a custom paver patio using Techo-Bloc Blu 60 in Champlain Gray, giving the space a clean, timeless look that works well with the surrounding home and landscape.

We added a curved seating wall to help define the patio and provide extra seating, along with low-voltage lighting built into the wall for added visibility and atmosphere after dark. Custom steps were also incorporated to create an easy transition between the patio and the rest of the yard.

Turning an Extremely Sloped Backyard Into Outdoor Living Space in Clayton, NC --

This Clayton backyard had such a steep slope that most of the area was basically unusable. The homeowners had a small concrete pad to reach their hot tub, but beyond that there was very little level ground to enjoy.

We transformed the slope with a custom paver patio and a Techo-Bloc Mini-Creta wall in Champlain Gray, designed to retain the grade while also serving as a curved seating wall around the patio. We added low-voltage lighting beneath the wall caps, a smokeless fire pit in the center, and steps leading back into the yard.

Instead of a steep area that was difficult to even walk across, the homeowners now have a comfortable place to sit around the fire, entertain, and actually enjoy their backyard.

Turning a Sloped Backyard Into Usable Outdoor Living Space in Clayton, NC --

This Clayton backyard had a slope that made much of the area difficult to use. Instead of fighting the grade, we worked with it and created a two-tiered paver patio that turned what had been a muddy, avoided part of the yard into real outdoor living space.

The upper and lower patio areas create separate places for relaxing and entertaining, while the curved seating wall helps define the lower gathering area around the fire pit. The tiered design also makes the transition down the slope feel natural instead of forcing everything onto one flat level.

This project was completed in a gated community in Clayton and is a good example of how the right hardscape design can make a difficult yard much more functional.
