Baby steps, most of the windows in, some of the liner on, insulation, interior girts and most of the exterior steel on, so close I can taste it. just a few more days to wrap this one up. Unfortunately we have a really tight deadline on another job so this one has to sit for a day or two while we wrap up our basement finish to get the family moved in by the weekend. Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa is on the short list.

I have been slacking on my posts, bad weather and really busy. Not anything cool that we could put up on here. This is two days of progress at Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa. Finally were able to get the roof on this and give us another place to hide out when the wind is blowing. Insulation is going in, interior framing is on the short list. We should have this one wrapped up in a few days. We have a little bit of outside steel left to run that may take awhile to catch a break on but we are getting close.

This is where we hide out when the wind blows and the rains come. I always take at least one turnkey project a year on purpose, sometimes a house addition, sometimes an office, sometimes a full house. This year we have 2 of them on accident. To be fair, we didn't have to build this one, just do the interior framing, this is about 1500 sq. ft. of basement that we are wrapping up, I love watching these come together. Really satisfying to see bare concrete turn into living space. The flooring is in ahead of paint on this, only because we had a really narrow window to get all this in. Painter will be there by the end of the week. By this time next week, doors, base, and case should be going on.

I happened to be on the wick web site today on an unrelated task, and I found a building that we had built in Bartlett as a featured project so I thought I would share this. What they never showed on here is the attached office on the rear of this building. Still nice to have a piece of work featured and hear the customer feedback on this project. Check it out!

This is one of several office buildings we have built, this one has a concrete safe room/file room that was poured in place before we built the building around it. This building is a 40'x64'x10'. One of the unique features on this building that I love, is the fully sheeted and papered roof, this takes all the "ghosting" out of the roof panels and leaves a flawless finish. It also cuts down on the noise, allows for a barrier between spray foam and steel, allows for a moisture barrier that will eliminate all condensation issues you may have on a finished building.

Details aren't very exciting, in this case it isn't even something you are going to see. But in the end, it is the difference between a lifetime building and a maintenance problem down the road. One of the things we do different with Wick is the house wrap we use. There is a long list of reasons to install Block-It over other wraps, they have a channel that allows water to drain on the surface of the paper, it is more tear resistant than Tyvek, it has better UV resistance, it is 100% waterproof. In some applications, Tyvek shines, post frame is not one of them. Wick has put research into the products included in their building packages, even the ones you don't see, and this is one small thing among many that make Wick a standout in the post frame industry. I recommend installing wrap over any building that is being finished as an additional moisture and air barrier to give the customer a product that will last well into the next generation and perform at or above expectation. We use this product 100% of the time we are going to spray foam a project as a barrier between the spray foam and the steel.

I don't personally make money on this product, I could replace it with something cheaper if I wanted to, but quality and longevity matter to me more than being the cheapest. Wick already did the homework for me, and I'm extremely grateful to build for a company that puts thought into the details of every building. As an aside, my guys are awesome at the installation. Tight, every seam taped, not a fold in sight.

Mike and the boys are doing a good job keeping everything moving in the cold and the rain, we were hoping to have this closed up before the weather shut us down, we didn't quite make it. Too windy yesterday to run paper, got a few hours in today. Honest progress.........hope we catch a break in here somewhere with the weather. Back into our basement to wait this one out....gonna have to get some pictures of that up here soon. Drywallers are working, flooring is on the agenda, we have electricians electric-ing, plumbers plumbing, painters painting. The show goes on regardless of the weather. Somewhere in the world, even if you don't see us doing it, we are building in SW Iowa. Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa, Gee Building Systems

Here is one of our more unique buildings we have put together recently. This is a stall barn, with living quarters, wash stall, and hay storage, on the day I took these I didn't have time to get inside and take pictures but that will definitely happen. Most of the exterior finishes were installed with the help of Richardson Construction out of Clarinda, IA. This is a great example of the flexibility of our building packages and what is possible with a little creativity. Many years ago Troy Toler, our sales manager, and myself, worked on a building for this customer's father, actually one of my first post frame buildings. It was an honor to get to come back 14 years later and build this gem for the same family, just a few miles down the road.
Here are some shots from our drone.

The Calvary Baptist Church, Clarinda, Iowa multi purpose building is coming along nicely for a job that hasn't been started, more wind coming this week and finally some rain. Thankful for the rain coming down the pipe, but it is definitely going to get in the way of our roofing projects. In spite of that, we have plenty of other projects we can move forward on, this being one of them.

This 30x48x16 Building with a full height 10' porch, is fully lined and insulated. We built a loft for small living quarters on one end, which the customers finished themselves. On the end above the overhead door we installed a false Hay door, that really classes the place up.
