Conventional vs. Aerobic: Do you know the difference? 🚽🏡
If you own a home with a septic system — or you’re planning to build — it’s important to understand that not all septic systems work the same way.
A conventional system is the more traditional setup. It typically uses a septic tank and lateral lines, and works by letting wastewater naturally separate and filter through the soil. These systems are common and effective when the property has the right soil and site conditions.
An aerobic system is a more advanced treatment system. It uses oxygen and multiple treatment stages to break down waste more thoroughly and produce cleaner effluent. These systems are often used when a property needs a higher level of treatment, but they also require more routine maintenance to keep them working properly.
✅ Conventional systems: simpler design, gravity-based, typically lower maintenance
✅ Aerobic systems: cleaner treatment, more components, more regular service needs
Neither system is “one size fits all” — the right choice depends on your property, soil conditions, and long-term maintenance expectations.
If you’re not sure which system is best for your home, land, or future build, we’re here to help explain your options.
