September is Emergency Preparedness Month, so this week’s WTF is all about being ready before an emergency happens.

Fires, floods, earthquakes, storms and other building emergencies don’t exactly RSVP before they arrive. A little preparation now can make a big difference when the unexpected happens.

For your property, start with the basics:

🔥 Fire: Know where fire extinguishers, alarms, shutoffs and emergency exits are located. Make sure fire protection systems are inspected and maintained regularly.
💧 Flood & Water Damage: Know where your main water shutoffs are and make sure your team knows how to access them. Regularly inspect plumbing, roofs, gutters and other areas where water intrusion can become a problem.
🌎 Earthquake: Secure heavy equipment and objects where possible, know your building’s safest areas, and have a plan for checking the property for structural or utility damage afterward.
