How do you demolish a 13 story building without damaging William Penn’s furniture? You give yourself 23 seconds and months of planning.

to 1998 and one of O’ROURKE’s most memorable projects.

Following a devastating fire, the Transportation and Safety Building in downtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was deemed unsafe and scheduled for demolition. O’ROURKE was selected to perform the demolition and site-work of the 13 story structure.

The challenge? The Pennsylvania State Archives sat just feet away, housing priceless artifacts, including furniture belonging to William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania.

Our team meticulously gutted the building and removed an entire bay to ensure the structure would collapse safely away from the archives.

Twenty three seconds later, nearly 40 years of Harrisburg history disappeared from the skyline.

Today, the 1 Million SF Keystone Building stands in its place.

This week, we celebrated Kevin on his retirement after 13 years of dedicated service to O’ROURKE. More than an outstanding driver, Kevin has been a dependable teammate, trusted friend, and someone who brought a positive attitude to every challenge, every day. He represented O’ROURKE with pride and helped build the legacy we enjoy today.

Thank you, Kevin, for your loyalty, hard work, and friendship. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement - you will be missed!

O’ROURKE recently wrapped up the demolition of the 680-space Elm Street Garage, opening up the north side of the First Financial Convention Center and creating new possibilities for the future of downtown Cincinnati.

The skyline has changed. Now we look forward to seeing what’s next.
