I started my business with the foundation of being a full service sustainable landscape company. We have been doing things differently from all of the other companies out there from day 1. We have been at the forefront on native plants and sustainable landscaping. It is what we are founded on. Designing long lasting landscapes, using plants that will reliably come back year after year, being creative with our drainage solutions, using natural materials in every design. Using battery powered equipment as much as possible.
One of the things we have been working towards is growing our own native plants. Natives are very hard to come by at the average nursery in any quantity. And this was the first year we really started growing, just on a small scale, but we are excited to keep this part of our business growing.
We are also very excited to be apart of the civic garden center native plant sale for the third year in a row. This is where we can introduce folks to natives, support other growers and nurseries trying to do similar things. And support the Civic Garden Center who does amazing things for communities all over Cincinnati.
Here is a list of some of the natives we will be bringing this year, plus even more not listed ;)
Echinacea purpurea - Purple Coneflower
Filipendula rubra - Queen of the Prairie
Eutrochium maculatum - Joe Pye W**d
Helenium autumnale - Sneezeweed

We lost an incredible person on Monday. I have been having trouble finding the right things to say. Nate was not just a GLBD team member since day one, but a close friend.. Nate was a father, a coach, and a mentor to many. He was dedicated to our GLBD team. He gave 100% to everything. He was part of our family.
I am going to miss him dearly. His giant smile every morning, hugs when he could see i was down. He trained each of our team members, we swapped parenting advice, chatted plants, and everything in between.
I will be reminded of him every day. Everywhere we look at GLBD there is a piece of him there, something he helped build, plants that he installed, pavers laid, boulders placed, garden boxes built, and systems he helped create.
Our staff will be mourning his loss for a while, his shoes will be hard to fill. Nate was an incredible human.
Nate we love you and we are going to miss you more than words can describe.
We hope you are at peace. ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’”๐Ÿ’œ

Spring gets so busy that I need to remind myself to pause and enjoy all of the beauty.
The photo above is of a forest pansy redbud, newly emerging leaves from about 2 weeks ago. Redbuds are my favorite tree. I used their leaf shape in my logo too. Redbuds are tough, they have a strong will to live. The color of their pinkish purple iridescent blooms are like no other flower.

Do you want to walk into your backyard and be able to harvest a handful of asparagus everyday, or a bowl of lettuce, a bunch of Radish, clip your own fresh herbs??
We can help! We design and install gardens. We now exclusively carry the nicest cedar beds in our area. Locally sourced eastern red cedar and built right here. It doesn't get more sustainable than that.
You can purchase the boxes from our Market to do yourself, or we can plan, design, and build the entire area for you.
We also offer garden coaching, seed starting, or you can get your own supplies at our Green Living Market.
