Chris and I had the opportunity to go out to Elaine Schlather Intermediate School in Cibolo this past Friday for Career Day.

We talked with the students about backflow prevention and cross connections, and walked them through proper USC testing procedures on RP and DC assemblies.

Chris did an excellent job explaining everything and engaging with the kids. Always great to get out in the community and share what we do.

Derika joined us about three weeks ago and has already been a huge help in the office. She’s handling our phones, emails, and scheduling, helping keep everything organized and making sure our technicians stay on track.

Today we had the opportunity to participate in Career Day at Green Valley Elementary, and it was a great experience!

Nick, Lucero, and Tommy spent the morning talking with the students about what we do at Ability Backflow and why backflow prevention is important for keeping our water safe. The kids asked some great questions and were excited to learn about the tools and equipment we use in the field.

A big thank you to Green Valley Elementary for inviting us and allowing us to spend some time with the students. We always enjoy getting the chance to share a little about our industry and hopefully inspire some future plumbers and backflow testers.

⚠️ FYI for Commercial and Residential Property Owners ⚠️

With freezing temperatures approaching, it’s important to understand who is legally allowed to repair and replace backflow assemblies—and why this matters for public health and drinking water safety.

🔹 An individual who only holds a Backflow Tester license is ONLY allowed to test and repair backflow assemblies.
🔹 If an assembly is damaged by freezing and must be replaced, the proper licensing is required based on the system type:

✔ Licensed Plumber – Domestic / potable water assemblies
✔ Licensed Irrigation Contractor – Lawn sprinkler system assemblies
✔ Licensed Fire Sprinkler Contractor – Fire line assemblies

⚠️ Why this matters:
An unlicensed or incorrect replacement is not just a compliance issue—it can create a serious health and safety risk.

• Potable (drinking water) systems require approved lead-free backflow assemblies
• Installing the incorrect type of backflow assembly may not fully protect against the specific hazard it is intended to address
• Improper selection or installation can allow backflow or back-siphonage, potentially exposing the water supply to contaminants

👉 At Ability Backflow, we are fully licensed to:
