Did you know September is prime migration season for Monarch butterflies?

Right now, thousands of Monarchs (Danaus plexippus) are making their incredible journey south, stopping by Unity Church Hill Nursery in Maryland to refuel on essential late-season blooms.

Captured on a crisp September day right here at Unity, in our demonstration gardens, this Monarch is taking full advantage of the Tickseed Sunflower (Bidens aristosa).

Native to Maryland, this vibrant wildflower is far more than just a pop of autumn gold... It is a critical source of high-energy nectar when migrating pollinators need it most.

Creating a resilient ecosystem starts with native plants. Incorporating native wildflowers into your garden provides vital food sources, supports local biodiversity, and builds functional wildlife habitats that sustain birds, bees, and butterflies year-round. Every native bloom acts as a lifeline for passing species.

Many thanks to Kellie, from the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and all the volunteers who came to the Oyster Gardening Workshop on Saturday!

We had the pleasure of hosting and collaborating for this event to learn about the powerful impact oysters have on the water quality and overall wellbeing of the Chesapeake Bay.

Kellie led a wonderful presentation and then demonstrated how to assemble the cages that will become the home of baby oysters.

These baby oysters went home with the volunteers and will live at the end of their docks, where they will be protected and looked after as they continue to mature.

As an oyster gardener, their duty is to check on these cages periodically, about once a month and keep them clean by brushing off the exterior of the cages.

Next spring, the oysters will be returned to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and placed in sanctuary reefs in the bay.

We loved sharing our space and being a part of such an important mission. Some folks were from the eastern shore, while others came from Annapolis and Baltimore to participate.

Together, we can Save the Bay!

The Details
🌱 Position: Environmental Design & Sales

🌱 Compensation: $70,750 – $102,000/year (Salary + Commission, commensurate with experience)

What We’re Looking For
✅ 3+ years of experience in CAD or Vectorworks design
✅ 3+ years of sales experience in the environmental construction field

✅ B.S. in Environmental Science (or equivalent relevant experience)
✅ Strong collaboration skills working with local counties, riverkeepers, and engineers
