At LYLES, Field Engineers are where planning meets ex*****on. They work alongside project teams in the field, solve real problems, coordinate the details that keep work moving, and learn what it takes to build complex infrastructure from the ground up.

It is hands-on experience. Real responsibility. And an opportunity to grow into the next generation of builders and leaders.

As we recognize Careers in Construction Month this October, we are highlighting the many paths that turn meaningful work into long-term careers. For Field Engineers, that path starts where the work happens, learning from experienced builders, taking ownership, and seeing firsthand how strong teams deliver projects communities depend on.

If you are looking for a career where you can learn the work, take on responsibility, and see the impact of what you build, explore opportunities with LYLES.

Critical infrastructure is easy to overlook when it’s doing exactly what it should.

But reliable performance is the result of thousands of decisions made along the way.

Planning the work. Coordinating around live systems. Solving problems in the field. Understanding what has to happen next.

And behind every one of those decisions are people whose experience matters.

That’s how dependable infrastructure gets built.

What a difference a year makes.

One year apart. Same project. A whole lot of work in between.

The Palmdale Water District’s Pure Water AV Demonstration Facility has taken shape through months of planning, coordination, problem-solving, and hard work in the field.

And behind that progress is a team of engineers, craft professionals, and field leaders who show up every day and keep the work moving.

Swipe through to see how far the project has come, and meet some of the people making it happen.

Great work, team.

Ever wonder what it takes to turn wastewater into high-quality purified water?

Project Engineer Jack Pollard takes us inside the Advanced Water Purification facility at our Santee project, starting with a look at the Reverse Osmosis system and the work happening behind the scenes.

This is just a preview. Catch Jack’s full 5-minute tour on the LYLES YouTube channel.

At LYLES, we’re not looking for people to simply fill a role. We want to help them build a career.

That starts with mentorship.

Our next generation of builders learns alongside experienced superintendents, project managers, engineers, field leaders, and craft professionals who have spent years doing the work. They get real responsibility, solve real problems, and have people around them who are invested in helping them grow.

Because the goal isn’t just to recruit great people.

It’s to give them a reason to stay, grow, take on more responsibility, and eventually become the mentors developing the generation behind them.

That’s how experience gets passed down. That’s how strong teams are built. And that’s how we keep building certainty in the work that matters most.

Experience changes what you notice.

When you’ve spent years in the field, you start seeing things differently. You know which questions to ask. You recognize when something doesn’t look right. You’ve worked through enough challenges to know when it’s time to bring another set of eyes into the conversation.

At LYLES, many of our people have spent years building their careers here. That means the lessons learned on one project don’t disappear when the job is done.
They move to the next project. They get shared with the next superintendent, foreman, project engineer or craft professional coming up behind them.

That’s the value of experience that stays.

We don’t just build projects together.

We build knowledge over careers.

A different view of the work that matters most.

From above, you see the scale.

On the ground, it comes down to the details. Planning the work. Coordinating the next move. Solving problems. Building it right.

One project. A lot of moving parts. One team keeping it moving forward.

“Ask for help early and it’s our problem. Ask for help late and it’s your problem.”

That was one of Bill Lyles’ lessons, and it still holds true in the field today.

On complex projects, problems rarely get easier with time. A constructability question. An unexpected field condition. A safety concern. A sequencing conflict.
The earlier someone speaks up, the more options the team has to work through it.

Asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s part of being accountable to the people working beside you and the project you’re responsible for delivering.

Good teams communicate early. Experienced teams know when to pull the right people into the conversation.

Because when someone raises their hand early, the problem becomes ours to solve.
