🌱 Aeration & Overseeding FAQ: Can I walk on my lawn after it’s been seeded?

Absolutely! You can walk on your lawn right away and continue normal foot traffic even as the new seed begins to germinate. Grass is tougher than you might think!

Of course, we wouldn’t recommend inviting the neighborhood rugby team over for practice 😄 — but casual use by your family, kids, and pets is just fine.

The most important thing? Keep that new seed consistently watered to give it the best opportunity to germinate and establish strong roots.

A better lawn starts with better seed. 🌱

Fall core aeration and overseeding is one of the best opportunities to strengthen your lawn—but the quality of the grass seed matters. At MissionGreen, we use a premium custom blend featuring Thermal Blue Kentucky Bluegrass and elite, top-performing cultivars selected to handle New England’s heat, drought, disease, and everyday lawn stress.

In our latest blog, we break down why our seed blend is different and how pairing premium seed with core aeration can help build a thicker, stronger, more resilient lawn.

Fall is one of the best opportunities to invest in a healthier, thicker lawn! 🌱

Core aeration opens up compacted soil, allowing water, nutrients, and oxygen to reach deeper into the root zone. Pair it with overseeding, and those freshly created openings provide an ideal environment to introduce new and improved grass varieties—including our Heat Tolerant Thermal Bluegrass—to help strengthen thin and bare areas.

The fall growing window doesn’t last forever, and our schedule fills quickly. Call MissionGreen today at 413-998-7829 to schedule your aeration & overseeding!

🌱 Did You Know? Every hole created during core aeration has a purpose.

Those small plugs of soil (like the one pictured) are removed to relieve compaction and create pathways for air, water, and nutrients to reach the root zone. The result? A stronger, healthier lawn that's better equipped to recover from summer stress and thrive heading into fall.

Core aeration helps:
• Relieve compacted soil
• Improve water infiltration
• Increase oxygen to the roots
• Enhance fertilizer effectiveness
• Encourage deeper root growth
• Create the ideal seedbed for overseeding

Fall is the most effective time to aerate cool-season lawns, and scheduling is already underway. A little work now can make a big difference in next year's lawn.

Each year, members of our MissionGreen team have the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C. to participate in the Renewal & Remembrance event at Arlington National Cemetery.

Alongside hundreds of landscape professionals from across the country, volunteers dedicate their time to help preserve and beautify one of our nation's most sacred places—a living tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

The good news? Early identification and proper treatment can stop them before they spread.
