A big thank you to LIXIL for joining us for a Lunch and Learn! Glenn Sobieski emphasized the importance of water efficiency, and how we as architects can lower water consumption through the plumbing fixtures we specify in our projects. Although codes specify maximum water usage of these devices, there are many products available that go beyond to limit water used for flushing, faucets, and showers.

A day in the life of an architect!

COBU hosted Judson University students in our office, through the Association of Licensed Architects Firm Walk Program. We opened our doors to provide insight on our projects, studio, and experiences from every member of COBU. This was a great way for current students to experience a firm and ask questions directly to an architect. We are so happy to share our passion for design with the next generation of future architects!

COBU joined the International Masonry Institute at The Obama Presidential Center to hear firsthand from the designers and construction team. Tamsan and Carissa spent the afternoon exploring the construction and materiality of this new center. The team behind this monumental building shared their design process, and how the building's masonry systems balance constructability and design intent.

Thoughtful home design, from front to back.

This French-country style home in Itasca, IL is layered in natural stone from the grand covered entry, to the rear terrace. Designed for family living, the home offers both indoor and outdoor gathering spaces, including a rear pool. A pool cabana for summer entertaining compliments the style of the main home, with arched dormers and metal roofing. Every detail was considered to create a home that feels inviting and cohesive.

This new amenity building design is located in Green Cove Springs, Florida. It houses all of the community amenities for the residents including a shared kitchen, fitness center, and pool with splash pad.

At COBU, we serve a variety of industries in our practice, but have an especially big heart for “architecture with meaning.” From commercial projects to custom homes to mutli-family, for us that meaning is found in projects which contribute to the betterment of society, improve the built environment and leave a legacy for future generations.

In the hills of Maryland, this clubhouse design is the social hub of an active residential community. A central cupola and covered porch create an inviting entrance, while shake siding and natural stone turn this amenity space into a peaceful retreat. Beyond the clubhouse, a pool, gathering spaces, sports courts, and a dog park provide spaces for the residents to connect and relax just steps from their homes.
