Once Subaru’s wild-child, the WRX grew up some, getting more refined driving manners in its 2022 regeneration. However, it’s still an easily distinguishable compact-performance sedan that’s both a practical 4-door daily-driver and a track-inspired pony with enough giddy-up to suit the everyday sports-car enthusiast.

It seats up to five and is offered in four trim levels: Base, Premium, Limited and GT. A 271-HP turbocharged 4-cylinder engine pairs with a 6-speed manual transmission - turning gearheads into merry shifters, though a continuously variable automatic transmission is also available and if elected, bundles a bevy of driver-assist safety-tech features as standard content.

This track-worthy little darling is off to the races with the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Hyundai’s Elantra N and the Toyota GR Corolla.

If the appetite for the daily commute is bigger than how the day gets whittled away after arrival, electing the WRX as the daily-driver makes a whole lot of enthusiast-sense.

For those endeavoring toward the uber-regalia of a track-driven wannabe, the WRX GT replete with back-cradling Recaro front seats is the trim to snare. The WRX is as comfortable grocery-store hopping as it is leaving those in the carpool lane in its dual-dust.

With the same body-on-frame architecture as Toyota's Land Cruiser, the Lexus LX 600 can make mud pies, climb rocks, and play in the sand box, whereas its fancy-pants competition is targeted for tarmac-only largess. If you feel the call of the wilds, want family and friends in tow, but wish to be "glampered" following that bliss and have what amounts to a down payment on a home to burn, the LX 600 may be your speed.

It’s refreshing to see a twin turbocharged V6 engine where once only the brawn of a V8 was imagined to suffice but in keeping with today’s global climate crisis, if consumer demand remains for these kings of the road, it’d be on-topic to see a hybrid drivetrain in the making.

Despite what may be experienced as a lack in road prowess, with prices at the pump topping $6 a gallon in some parts of the USA and with the global carbon footprint teetering on existential zero-hour, the emission-free all-electric 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is a credible crossover with a compelling barrier to entry in the mid-forties - made even more compelling by incentivizing with three years of free charging to restore the fast-charge lithium-ion battery pack. Good things come in small packages. Better things come in small German-engineered packages.

The GLS-Class is Mercedes' hallmark luxury crossover SUV that seats seven across three rows. It is said good things come in threes, but sometimes more is more, so now there are four. The GLS-Class trims include the base 450, the mid 580, the performance-oriented AMG 63 S, and the range-tippy-topping Maybach model. The 450 mates a turbocharged in-line six with a nine-speed automatic transmission while the 580, AMG, and Maybach add a twin-turbo V8 with the AMG and Maybach ponying up over 600 velveteen horses!

Depending on geo-location, the cost of this Teutonic luxury liner is analogous to a small starter home with an entry point around 75K and the crowned jewel, the debuting Maybach, coming in at nearly twice that.

This fancy-pants family-hauler has a “wherever you go, here I am” road-yogi sort of stance. It’s as practical as it is posh with an exceptionally well-appointed interior, state-of-the-art tech-utes, and plenty of on- and off-road prowess just beckoning to level up the carpool lane or arrive in vogue for the company glamping trip. If you’ve got the scratch to support the itch, this segment sweetheart and automaker flagship speak German fluently.

Peers in this upper-class include the BMW X7, Cadillac Escalade, and the Lincoln Navigator.
