Herbs are seriously the biggest bang for your buck in the garden 🌿💸 One tiny grocery store herb pack costs almost as much as a whole plant that’ll keep producing all summer long. Filling this front yard pot with all my favorite herbs today ✨

Most people saw a tiny empty backyard.

I saw tomatoes climbing trellises, pollinators buzzing through flowers, herbs by the kitchen door, and summer dinners grown a few steps from home. 🌿

This garden didn’t happen overnight. It grew through small decisions, failed plants, muddy mornings, and believing that even in the city, something abundant could grow here.

Mother’s Day at the garden center turned into a full family gardening workshop 😂🌸 My sister was teaching our baby sister the “thriller, filler, spiller” method while my mom was busy building her own flower container. Meanwhile I’m over here realizing the plant obsession clearly runs in the family 🌿💚

Honestly, give the women in my family a cart and a garden center and we will be happy and content for hours. We came for “just a few plants” and somehow left with overflowing carts, dirty hands, and enough flowers to turn the whole yard into a botanical garden ✨

Just a 2.5 hour drive from Chicago and we spent Saturday surrounded by millions of tulips 🌷✨ The Tulip Time Festival in Holland (May 1–10) is 100% worth the trip… just go in with a plan 🤭

We brought the dogs 🐶 and I need to say this loudly - TULIPS ARE TOXIC TO DOGS! I had eyes on them the entire time, no sniffing, no chewing, no wandering. If you’re bringing your pets, please be very vigilant.

We packed a full picnic (best decision) because the town was packed. Restaurant wait times were crazy! Having our own food made everything so much more relaxed. They also had lots of food stalls in the fairgrounds!

And yes… expect traffic and crowds. Give yourself time and patience.

On the way home, we made a stop in Saugatuck to hit the beach, sit by the water, and share a cake right on the hood of my car 🎂 My friend Bernadette baked a birthday cake for me and it was the perfect ending to the day.

My sister and her boyfriend are back at it with their second annual flower pot competition… and let me tell you, the rules are… nonexistent 😂

We’re talking pots packed to the brim, plants fighting for elbow room, unique compositions, mystery soil choices, and yes… an entire packet of seeds casually tossed in after everything was already planted. Chaos? A little. Creative freedom? 100%.

And honestly, that’s the whole point. Gardening doesn’t have to be perfect or Instagram-worthy to be meaningful. It can be messy, experimental, and a little over the top, as long as you’re enjoying it!

I’m just here to hype them up, cheer them on, guide them a little and watch what happens when you let curiosity lead. Because sometimes the best gardens come from breaking all the “rules.” 🌱
