Taking advantage of a nature-filled backdrop, such as the Illinois River, was a no-brainer when we designed this vacation home located at the Heritage Harbor Marina Resort - Heritage Harbor. In collaboration with our general contractor, we conceptualized this waterfront project around enhancing the physical and visual connections from the built interior to the surrounding landscape.

The Garfield Multi-family Renovation is just one of the many projects we are continuing to follow along with as it propels through the construction phase. At our most recent site visit, we had the chance to see the completion of demolition and the beginning of major interior framing. yuacollab led the design effort to de-convert the building from its original 62 units down to 48 to provide more efficient layouts with the additional square footage.

In 2021, our firm was given the opportunity to submit a competition entry for the On Olive Development in St. Louis where the organizer tasked us to incorporate the need for wellness, nature, and privacy within a small city lot.

Our idea was simple: we wanted to bring the peacefulness of a suburban lifestyle to an urban setting that provides all the conveniences, combining the best of both worlds. We introduced gardens to separate physical spaces where we socialize and sleep. The proposal not only embraced this idea, but also challenged us to push boundaries further while designing on a repetitive city lot.

We recently had a productive client meeting for a major face-lift project in Naperville where we discussed the final touches to the exterior and began developing the interior. To elicit a breathtaking first impression as your eyes meet the entryway, our team proposed a 2-story window assembly featuring a blade-thin, cantilevered canopy.

Studying the patterns, texture, and geometry up close elevates the way architecture is seen from a distance. In our practice, shifting perspectives allows us to see things differently and recognize something we might not have seen before which results in dynamic design.

This townhome project in Lincoln Park has small moments that can be better appreciated from a closer view – details of lines, textures, light, shadow, and movement. Final photos, new perspectives, coming soon!

| Never Too Small: Backyard Coach House |

In December 2020, Chicago passed the Additional Dwelling Units (ADU) ordinance to address the affordable housing shortage. Our studio had the opportunity to design one of the first few currently under construction – a backyard coach house in Wicker Park.

We want to share a few construction photos of this compact, yet sunlit home as it reaches completion. Professional photographs coming in October!
