If you follow my personal account then you are aware of what has been happening these past few months, but let me get everyone up to speed quickly! (I apologize for not posting earlier)

We sold our house in SC, and the new owners have hired me to finish remodeling the kitchen and main area of the house. Oh, and we bought a new (old) house in Chicago.

So, yesterday we drove 12 hours to Chicago and now I'm sitting at O'Hare Airport waiting for my flight back to SC. I'm flying back to wrap up work at the house in SC before I pack up my tools and drive the 12 hour trip back to Chicago again. The final time!

It's been a roller-coaster of everything you can imagine these last few months, but we're excited for this next adventure and challenge.
Even though it was a short period of time I want to thank everyone I worked for these past couple years. I had fun with all of the projects I worked on, but enjoyed meeting and chatting with everyone most. It has truly been a pleasure and I feel lucky to have found such amazing clients 😊

I will continue to post on this account (hopefully more frequently) as I continue my work in Chicago.
We also have an account for our new home that we will be posting to as we begin a massive remodel. Feel free to join us

All the best to my SC family and friends. Thanks again!

Home project! We've been talking about this kitchen remodel for the last 6 years and it's finally here.

This past weekend we put in the 22 ft beams that will allow us to take out the wall between the kitchen and family room.

I thought about how we were going to lift these two LVL beams into place for the last 8 months. I thought I was going to have to rent a material lift, but it turns out all I needed was great planning and help from my strong neighbor! In less than a day the beams were in place and all I had to do was finish framing the new upper wall and insulate.

Our cat Henry loves the ladder and at one point he got into the attic and I had to chase him around to get him back down. I think he was inspecting the work.

Next up is removing the wall and the cabinets. We need to start getting ready for the new cabinets arriving Sept 1!

Finally getting around to posting these before and after shots of the basement project from earlier this year. The pics don't line up perfectly because of the different camera lens I used for them. I also have some trim and flooring to finish, but that won't get done until I go back and remodel the laundry room which the client decided to add on later. The last pic is the little access door I built for the gas fireplace shutoff. Really fun project and I'm looking forward to going back this summer to complete the laundry room.

Just posting this dry bar that we built and installed at our house. Beautiful walnut countertop made with the help of . I built the cabinets and the drawers myself. The drawers have a walnut face to match the countertop. We installed racks to hang the drink glasses. The left side of the bar holds our electronic equipment (all wired through the wall, down into the crawlspace, and up behind the fireplace). The right side hides the ugly return vent for our HVAC, which is why we decided on the vented doors.

Doing some catch up here on posting about the basement remodel... getting the floors prepped and starting to lay the LVP flooring. Space is really coming together and next is cutting, painting and installing trim for all the doors, windows and baseboards.

Walls and soffits are painted. I'm installing the framing for the drop ceiling and then putting the ceiling tiles in place. It's starting to look like a more finished space!

Paneling, sheetrock, and shiplap up on the walls and soffits. Oh, and all the lights are wired and ready to be installed once the sheetrock is finished... some are already hanging from the ceiling joists.

Framing and insulation complete. Moving on to installing the new paneling and sheetrock.

The plan for this basement is to finish the main area and make it into a comfortable living space while keeping space in the back for storage. In these photos I'm framing out the new walls and framing around the HVAC runs. Next up is framing the exterior walls and insulation.

Right now I'm currently working on two basement projects. These are the before shots of the bigger of the two projects. This basement was partially finished with a bedroom and bathroom (30 years ago). I'll be building out new walls and soffits (around HVAC runs). Adding insulation, sheetrock, paneling, shiplap, a built-in book shelf, a closet, pocket doors, trim, LVP flooring, recessed lighting, and a new drop ceiling... oh, and painting. More updates to come as I continue working on this basement.

Progress pics from that master bath in my last post. The old shower tile was some of the craziest I've taken out so far... a thick mortar bed with a metal lath behind it. I had to replace some of the subfloor as well, but worked out well since I had to change the plumbing for the new shower. Such a small space, but a lot of planning and work put into this bathroom.
