Slow down and move over. It's not only the law, the consequences can be life-changing.

On the evening of February 1st, a Patrol Lieutenant working in Troop P (Carbon County) was struck by a vehicle while working an unrelated crash on Interstate 80. The Lieutenant was inside of his vehicle at the time of the crash and became trapped. He was transported and released from the hospital. He is doing well and ready to get back to work! We could not put enough emphasis on SLOW DOWN MOVE OVER (31-5-224). The statute states that a vehicle traveling on an interstate SHALL move into the furthest lane from the emergency vehicle. It also states that when traveling on a two-lane road with a posted speed limit greater than forty-five miles per hour, the car SHALL slow to twenty miles per hour less than the posted speed limit. For the safety of everyone, please remember to SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER for all stopped emergency and maintenance vehicles!
