Did you know that many of our law enforcement rangers are, among their many other skills, trained in mountain biking? This helps them monitor and respond to issues on trails throughout our system. But it also means that, at 10AM, on Saturday, September 12th, we will be offering our first ever Ride With a Ranger program at the park! This program will offer guests the opportunity to explore the Gowdy trail system with our LE Rangers leading the way. We will have snacks and refreshments - along with a short program on trail etiquette and responsible trail recreation - at the Sherman Hills Shelter as part of the ride. Regular day use fees apply. Though this program does not have any extra fee associated with it, it is available by registration only. To register, please fill out the form here: https://loom.ly/2Hl62Ro Registration is limited, so sign up today!

This event is open to military veterans and active duty military. Join a volunteer military veteran for a guided hike at Curt Gowdy State Park. We will meet at the Curt Gowdy Visitor Center and take off for the trailhead from there. Expect a hike between 2 and 4 miles on easy to moderately difficult terrain. For individuals who would like a more accessible opportunity, we will have a parks employee available to guide a brief (3/4 mile, 30 minutes) nature hike on the paved Kate's Trail just behind the Visitor Center. Please bring plenty of water, snacks if you want them, sunscreen, comfortable closed toed shoes, and appropriate layers for a late summer hike.

We have had several requests for more guided hikes this year, and we figured we'd try to offer one or two more before the school season starts. Our first offering is next Wednesday, August 12th at 9:30AM. One of our interpretive rangers will be leading the public on a hike to find and learn about the blossoms and stages of plants in the mid-late summer. We will meet at the Visitor Center for folks to get water and visit the bathroom, and then leave for the trailhead from there. Expect an easy to moderate hike covering 1-2 miles. Please bring plenty of water, snacks, comfortable closed-toed hiking shoes, and appropriate clothing for a warm summer day (80-90 degrees) and potential rain storms. This program is open to the public and does not require any extra fee outside of the normal day use fees for the park. We hope to see you there!
