In many cases, they are caused by Gloeocapsa magma, a blue green organism that thrives in humid, shaded conditions. Algae is usually cosmetic, but moss, lichen, trapped moisture, lifted shingles, and age related wear can point to a bigger problem.

Most homeowners have a deductible when they replace a roof through insurance. Some policies use a flat deductible like $1,000 or $2,500, while some wind and hail deductibles are based on a percentage of the home’s insured value.
