🧱 Fresh patch, clean finish, another fireplace upgrade complete!

This customer just got a brand new fireplace installed, which meant the old venting had to come out. Once it’s gone, that hole in the brick doesn’t patch itself, that’s where we come in.

We pulled the old exhaust cap, reset the brick course, and matched the existing bond pattern to keep it looking tight. The mortar is still fresh in these photos, so it’s showing a little darker than the surrounding wall, that’s completely normal and part of the natural curing process. Give it some time and it’ll lighten right up to blend in beautifully.

This one had it all. A full vertical crack running top to bottom on one wall, and a blown out corner where the bricks had completely separated and fallen out. Years of Michigan freeze-thaw cycles doing what they do.

We cut out the cracked joints, rebuilt the corner from the base up course by course, matched the brick, and repointed everything tight. The mortar looks dark in the after photos because it’s fresh. It’ll lighten up significantly over the next few weeks and blend right in with the existing joints. That’s completely normal and part of the curing process.

End result, structurally sound, weathertight, and looking clean.

If your brick is cracking, shifting, or falling apart, don’t wait on it. Water gets in, temps drop, and it only gets worse. Catch it early and it’s a repair. Wait too long and it’s a rebuild.

This crown has cracked, deteriorated, and is loose.
