During this time of the season, I'm asked this question a lot: "Can I get termites delivered in my mulch?"
The answer is yes, however those particular termites are not going to destroy your home. Displaced termites will not survive long without their colony. The real culprits are the termite colonies already established around your property.
Mulch creates moisture for the soil so plants, shrubs, and various flowers can grow. The moisture is what attracts termites to the mulch. This is why termite inspectors routinely find termites in mulch beds. It has nothing to do with termites being delivered with the mulch. Just remember, when you decide to install mulch around your house, leave some room around the perimeter of the house for sunlight and don't bury the siding in mulch. This will allow a qualified termite professional the opportunity to locate and administer the proper measures for your problem.
