This week’s feature is a 2009 Ford Fusion with an All Keys Lost situation.
No original key.
No spare key.
Nothing to copy.
That’s where the process gets interesting! 👀
For this job, we had to start from scratch — decode the lock, cut a brand-new key, and then program it to the vehicle’s immobilizer system.

🔙🔑 THROWBACK THURSDAY — WHEN COPYING THE OLD KEY ISN’T THE ANSWER!

For this Throwback Thursday, we’re going back to a Toyota with a badly worn key that was no longer working in the ignition.

Instead of simply copying the worn-out key — and copying all that wear right along with it — I decoded the key to determine the original factory cuts and cut a fresh key back to factory specifications. 🔑

But cutting the key was only half the job.

This Toyota also used a transponder chip, so I cloned the chip from the original key onto the new one.

The result? 👇

✅ Factory-correct key cuts
✅ Fresh key that operates the ignition properly
✅ Transponder chip cloned
✅ No need to replace the ignition just because the key was worn out

Sometimes the problem isn’t the ignition.

Sometimes the key has simply worn so far from its original specifications that it’s time to start fresh.

That’s what locksmithing is all about — diagnosing the actual problem and finding the right solution. 🔐

🔙 THROWBACK THURSDAY! 🔑🚗
Throwing it back to this 2013 Ford Focus with a worn-out ignition lock tumbler.
Years of use had taken their toll, and the ignition lock was ready for replacement. But replacing the tumbler doesn’t mean the customer should have to carry around a second key!
🔧 Removed the worn ignition tumbler
🔑 Installed a new replacement
🛠️ Recoded the new tumbler to match the vehicle’s existing key
The result? A properly working ignition while keeping the same key the customer was already using.
That’s one of the advantages of calling a locksmith—we don’t just replace parts. When possible, we make the new lock work with your existing key.
