We are a 30+ year old family owned company that has designed and built hundreds of homes throughout the Washtenaw, Jackson, LIvingston and Lenawee counties. As designers + builders, we can inform the design process with practical, tried and true building practices and current costs. This is a streamlined method to help our clients to make informed decisions in the early stages of the design process to ensure that budget requirements are met, resulting in the best value possible. This a collaborative effort that provides a degree of communication and transparency that is difficult to achieve otherwise. Putting people first begins with listening.

At the beginning of every project, we invite our clients to complete a priority card exercise. As they sort, we listen to how they interpret each element of their future project, what matters most, and why. Then we share what we see, explain how design and construction decisions can affect scope and cost, and refine the priorities together.

These early conversations create a clear framework for the project. With input from our design team and experienced estimator, we can protect the features that matter most, have transparent budget discussions, and guide informed decisions from the start.

That clarity continues into selections. Our designers curate thoughtful options that fit the project’s established parameters, respecting both the client’s budget and their time.

Thoughtful material decisions can give a finished detail meaning far beyond its function.

For this retaining wall, we’re using varied stones from the property where the owner grew up. By carrying that material into the current project, the design preserves a tangible connection to the family’s history while creating a feature that feels grounded in the character of the site.

It’s an example of how continuity, context, and craftsmanship can come together in one detail. Good design considers how something will look and perform. Meaningful design also considers what it carries forward.

Every person involved in a project sees it through a different lens, and the best solutions often emerge when those perspectives meet on site.

During a recent visit, members of the Riemco team met with our siding partner Peak Home Exteriors to review installation logistics, confirm material takeoffs, and work through an important trim detail.

Together, they developed an approach that conceals the visible J-channel for a cleaner finish while maintaining proper water management. It’s a small detail with a meaningful purpose: honoring the design intent without compromising how the exterior needs to perform.

Respect means valuing each person’s expertise, asking the right questions, and solving challenges together. The client may have one primary point of contact, but there is an entire team thinking ahead and working on their behalf.

Respect begins with listening, then designing around what matters most.

For this couple, that meant updating the home where they raised their family to better support life today, while also planning thoughtfully for the years ahead.

The remodel included a full kitchen renovation, an updated fireplace wall, a new mudroom/drop zone, a new three-piece bath, and a screened-in porch addition. The den was also transformed into flexible office and guest space, with the option to become a first-floor primary suite in the future.

Upstairs, the primary bath was reworked for better storage, function, and accessibility, including a spacious walk-in shower.

The result is proof that aging-in-place planning doesn’t have to feel clinical or compromise beautiful design. Every change was considered as part of the whole, creating a home that feels fresher, more functional, and ready for what comes next.

Plans can change during the process of building a home or a remodel, but that doesn’t mean the end result has to feel like a compromise.

When this client’s priorities shifted during the design of their basement bar, our team listened, talked through what mattered most, and returned with thoughtful alternatives rather than simply presenting a problem.

The original concept featured an elaborate curved bar wrapping around the staircase. As the plan evolved, we explored ways to simplify certain elements while preserving the warmth, character, function, and visual impact that made the original design special. Updated cabinetry, shelving, finishes, lighting, and plumbing decisions gave us a new path forward- without sacrificing the quality or thoughtful design our clients expected.

Pivoting during the design process doesn’t mean settling for less. With the right team, it means finding a different solution that still feels intentional, beautiful, and distinctly yours.

From there, our designers do the behind-the-scenes work: researching, comparing, and curating materials, fixtures, and finishes based on your style, priorities, budget, and overall vision.

The detail that makes the difference: Channel Shadow.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest architectural impact.

On this half-wall in one of our current projects, a recessed channel shadow creates a crisp line between surfaces. Instead of adding another piece of trim, the reveal uses shadow to define the edge- creating a clean, modern finish.

It looks simple, but executing it well takes careful planning and precision.

Thoughtful design often shows up in the details you might not notice at first but would miss if they weren’t there.
