Horst Project Services

Horst Project Services Small outdoor project specialist I then moved into electrical work before going to college.

Started working at the age of 14 on a thoroughbred horse farm mowing, cleaning stalls, clearing fence lines, and a lot of general maintenance. I worked there through the end of high school until I started working in agricultural construction building barns and pouring and finishing concrete. After racking up lots of debt for a degree I was losing interest in, I went back into the agriculture const

ruction field. I also dabbled in vineyard work, cab driving, and a short stint managing a landscaping company. After moving to Floyd I spent 5 years building houses from the ground up, including my own, among many other projects. I've also acquired 3 years experience as a woodworker designing and building furniture, cabinets, and doors. Add all that up and you get 8 years in the construction field plus 3 years woodworking. I try to think through each project in as much detail as I can before ever starting to ensure it goes as smoothly as humanly possible. I'd love to talk to you about your project and help you ideas develop into a reality that can be appreciated for years to come!

If you have trees that came down in the recent wind storm or trees that made you nervous while they were blowing around, maybe now is the time to take care of them and utilize the wood thats already on your property for next years fires. We can help you land them safely on the ground, cut them up and split, and find a good solution for storage. That could include stacking them between trees or posts or building a structure to keep everything dry until you're ready to use it.
We don't offer climbing services, so the trees would have to have a safe place to fall or we can recommend another company for your needs.

Another trench dug and backfilled just before the snow. With the help of the electrical crew at Omnibuild we were able to get an outlet installed on the fence 100ft from the house. With the ground being soft from freeze/thaw cycles the use of plywood and our smaller mini helped us get up near the house without causing deep ruts in the lawn. We were also able to fit between some flower beds and with the use of our 9" bucket, create smaller piles of dirt which reduces time and mess when filling the trench back in.
If you have a job that could use a smaller machine like ours, let us know and we'd be happy to come look at it with you!

We tackled this project back in the summer on the hottest days of the year, or so it seemed. Each step stone is estimated to weigh around 300-400lbs which will help them stay in place! We are happy with how it turned out and look forward to seeing it again later as the garden continues to expand around it. If you or someone you know has a small project that could use our help, let us know at 540-268-0180 or [email protected].

After a little facelift this barn is looking a bit fresher and has a lot less holes going through the siding. We straightened one of the side roofs as well and braced it up to keep it from sinking into the ground.
As we are putting more of the business focus on earthmoving projects we do still offer a variety of services around property development. If you have a small project that you just can't seem to check off your list, give us a call at 540-268-0180 or email at [email protected] to schedule a free quote.

After it rains for days, you may be wondering if you need to step up your drainage game. We created a "creek bed" with river rocks for this customer to help keep the water away from their building. Dirt was brought in to build up the right side and we added a secondary branch to make sure to collect as much water as we could. If you have drainage issues we would be happy to talk to you about potential solutions and get you an estimate!

We also can do small grading projects, dig ditches, holes, and build small pole barns and outbuildings.

In an effort to build a rig that would make our equipment even more useful, the mini dump idea has finally been realized. This can allow us to get dirt in and out of tight spaces and with the reach of an excavator arm allows us to do jobs that a skid loader or tractor would struggle in. We also now have a 28" smooth bucket for grading, 18" digging bucket, and for smaller trenches we have a 9" digging bucket. The 9" bucket is nice for only removing what is necessary and creating smaller piles of dirt and less mess. If you have a small project that we could tackle for you let us know by email at [email protected] or give us a call at 540-268-1080.

Drainage is such an important part of any property. This can become very clear after a major rain storm comes through and washes out driveways and fills basements with water. These hoop houses needed some help getting the water that runs off, out and away from them. This was done by creating a slope away from each tunnel while also starting high in the center and sloping out to the ends. The last picture shows everything raked out after filling and packing in the soil. If you have any projects that have popped up give me a ring at 540-268-0180. I can also move brush, logs, and rocks with the thumb on my mini.

This burn pit needed filled back in and graded. The best way to do this is in small lifts with lots of compaction passes to keep the settling to a minimal. Quick work with a rake and some seeding will make this area look better in no time.
