Same fire. Same conditions. Very different outcome.
In the untreated stands, the fire burned hot and fast, leaving behind widespread mortality. When it reached the treated unit, the intensity dropped, trees survived, and the fire moved to the ground where it could be managed.
This is what active forest management looks like on the landscape. It changes fire behavior, protects forests, and gives firefighters a chance to do their job.
