This 50k sf dormitory was built for a private school here in Chattanooga that has trusted us with its concrete work for years.

That long standing relationship matters to us.

Repeat work is never something we take for granted.

It is earned through consistency, communication, and delivering the same level of quality from the first footing to the final slab.

Being the biggest concrete contractor has never been our goal.

Being the first phone call has.

One thing we've noticed over the years is that when national GCs come into Chattanooga, they all ask the same question.

"Who's the concrete contractor we should be talking to?"

That question isn't answered by marketing.

It's answered by reputation.

We've been fortunate that many of those conversations lead to our phone ringing.

Not because we're the only contractor in town.

Because people trust what our name represents.

A 330,000-square-foot La-Z-Boy warehouse sounds like it should be relaxing.

It was not.

Our team is crushing concrete work for the new La-Z-Boy warehouse in Dayton, TN, including:

→ 330,000 square feet of warehouse space
→ 160,000 square feet of concrete pavement

That is a lot of ground to cover before anyone gets to sit down. 🪑

The finished warehouse may eventually be full of recliners. ↘️

But there was nothing laid-back 😉 about building it.

Ok, we’ll stop with the dad jokes now.

Over the next couple of years, several of our veteran superintendents will retire.

Collectively, that's well over 100 years of experience walking off our job sites.

You don't replace that with an ad on Indeed.

Experience isn't just knowing how to pour concrete.

It's knowing what can go wrong before it does.

It's recognizing problems before anyone else notices them.

It's knowing when to slow a job down.

It's understanding how one decision today affects the next three weeks.

That's why mentoring matters so much to us.

Every experienced superintendent has knowledge that can't stay in one person's head.

It has to be passed down.

The future of construction won't depend on finding more people.

It will depend on transferring knowledge before it walks out the door.

Facilities like this are what keep airport operations moving behind the scenes.

Our team is making progress on the new 25k square foot SRE Maintenance Facility at the Chattanooga Airport.

These projects require:

👉 Precision on foundations and slab elevations
👉 Coordination to keep the overall schedule moving
👉 Crews that understand the importance of getting it right the first time

We've turned work down for one reason 👇

The schedule.

Not because we couldn't do it.

Because we knew we couldn't do it the way we wanted to.

There are contractors that will tell you yes to everything.

We'll tell you the truth.

If we think a schedule puts the quality of the finished product at risk

We'll say it.

That's cost us work before.

We're cool with that.

Our reputation has always been worth more than one project.

Concrete companies usually get attention on pour day.

The real work starts long before that.

By the time you see pumps in the air and trucks lined up,

our crews have already spent weeks preparing.

On our Univesity of Tennessee at Chattanooga residence hall project with Hoar Construction, that means:

→ coordinating elevated deck placements
→ building concrete shafts through multiple levels
→ managing sequencing around other trades
→ making sure every detail is ready before concrete arrives

This project will become an 8-story dorm that thousands of people will see.

But like most great concrete work, the most important parts are the ones they’ll never notice.

And that’s exactly how it should be.

People ask us all the time why we stay within roughly two hours of Chattanooga.

Why not expand into Atlanta?

Knoxville?

Nashville?

The answer is simple.

Because we like the company we've built.

Our crews get home.

Our leaders know our customers.

Our superintendents know these jobs.

Our relationships run deep.

Could we chase projects across the Southeast?

Absolutely.

But we've watched what happens when companies grow faster than their culture.

We've intentionally built Fulmer differently.

We'd rather have the best reputation in our market than be the biggest name on a map.

For us, success isn't measured by how many states we're working in.

It's measured by whether our people still want to come to work tomorrow.
