HOT TAKE: It should be illegal to have a tax due date fall on a Monday! πŸ™ƒ

If you clocked that quarterly taxes don't always follow a "quarterly" schedule, here's why ↓

Way back in the day, Tax Day used to be March 15th, so Congress counted three months out and set June 15th as the next estimated tax deadline. πŸ“†

But when Tax Day got pushed back to April 15th (not complaining, btw), the June 15th deadline stayed the same.

Soooo, unfortunately, that's why your Q2 estimated taxes are due just two short months after you paid your April ones.

I don't make the rules; I just make sure you don't miss the deadlines! 🀷

A few FAQs that I've had in my DMs recently ↓

Do I do taxes? Nope.

But do I have a list of amaaazing accountants I refer my clients to? 🀭

Absolutely (I can't say enough good things about them).

What about 1099s? πŸ‘€

Luckily for all the contractors out there, I *do* help with these!

On top of keeping your bookkeeping clean + up-to-date, I help most of my clients with 1099 filings in January to make their lives even easier. πŸ€—

If you want clean books by this summer, here's your to-do list ↓

Hire a bookkeeper (preferably me!!). πŸ“š

It'll take you like two seconds (read: 5 minutes) to fill out my New Client form.

Then, if you start working with me in May, here's what I'll do for you:

β†’ run a full diagnostic to see what's going on behind-the-scenes in your books

β†’ get you fully onboarded so that I have all the access + data I need for your file

β†’ clean up + reconcile your accounts so that your financials are *actually* useful

β†’ create a game plan to keep your bookkeeping caught up from here on out

Hot businesses don't spend their summers worrying about bookkeeping!

Tax season has a not-so-funny way of exposing every single weak spot in your bookkeeping. πŸ™ƒ

When your books are behind, tax season gets even less fun...

Your return gets extended.

The bill from your CPA has a painfully high line item for "reviewing a shoebox of receipts".

And it's nearly impossible to be sure you've captured every write-off. 🀷

I help businesses get their books cleaned up, caught up, and handled going forward so that you don't dread tax season anymore!

So if tax season humbled you, clicking the link in my bio might just be the solution. 😜

I found over $3k in duplicated income the month one of my March client's bank accounts un-synced from Quickbooks... 😳

That's the kind of mistake where if you aren't reconciling (matching your bookkeeping to your statements), you would've overstated your income and paid way more in taxes.

It's the kind of thing that isn't always super obvious, but it's why I insist that EVERYONE reconcile their accounts on a regular basis.

Reconciling helps you flag those duplicate, missing, or simply wrong transactions before they become bigger issues! πŸ’Έ

I'm taking you behind-the-scenes on exactly what I did for one of my restaurant clients this month ↓

I started by importing and categorizing all of her transactions from her bank account and credit cards. πŸ’³

I cleaned up duplicated income to make sure we weren't overstating her revenue.

I reclassified any personal expenses to make sure those didn't show up on her P&L.

Then, I reconciled (matched) each of her accounts to its most recent statement. 🏦

As my final step for every restaurant, I ran her monthly financial reports, flagged anything that stood out to me, and sent her a summary email with all of my findings! πŸ“Š

Every restaurant business deserves to understand exactly what happened in their business. I can give that to you!

I'm all about adding whimsy to your life, but maaaybe your chart of accounts isn't the best place for it? 🀷

Things I've seen that I'm still trying to unsee:

β†’ A "Personal expenses" account (this really shouldn't need to be a thing; it's best practice to reclassify these!)

β†’ 3 different versions of "Office Expenses", "Office Expense", "Office" 😬

β†’ Subaccounts on subaccounts on subaccounts

β†’ Vague account names that make sense to you (but not to anyone else)

I'm not here to judge your chart of accounts, but I *am* here to fix it. Ask about my diagnostic reviews if you want my feedback on yours! 🧠
