Work has been slow going on building a chicken run. Lost two more hens this week to a predator. Hard to find time with two full-time demanding careers, three kids, two dogs, and a home to take care of. One step at a time. The second wall is built from chain-link fencing we found in our woods. Finishing up supports and bracing before we stand it up.

How do you feel about bats? I was working on something outside last night and was happy to see my friends at work eating the pesky bugs that were biting me. 🦇 🌅

Lost another chicken to a predator of some kind, probably a coyote. 😢

Started working on a chicken run. Our chickens will be limited free rangers going forward. Using old pallets for the far wall. 🪵 🐓

Perfect funny fall day for working outside. ☀️ 🍁

Welcome to the outside world, little ones. 🐥☀️

Today the babies met the big chickens, discovered grass and bugs, and decided Reese was their new best friend. 😂❤️

Meanwhile, the big girls were keeping a very close eye on the new kids.

Not a bad first day outside. 🌱🐔

A little egg haul from around the homestead lately. 🥚🐔🤎💙💚Different days, different shades, all from our girls.

We have fourteen chickens that free range. This silly girl likes to go off on her own, she is not bullied by the other chickens, she just likes to do her own thang. Her name is Hen Solo.

We have a new coop setup this year and need to decide how to winterize our water for the chickens. Minnesota can get pretty cold, negative Fahrenheit windchills. 🥶 ❄️

Do you prefer an all-in-one heated unit or the heat plates?

Do you use an outdoor extension cord or have you run electricity to your coop? 🔌⚡️
