Our story began in the 1960s with a simple promise: provide honest, dependable service and treat every customer like a neighbor. Founded as J L Kerley, we earned the trust of families and businesses across the greater Charlottesville community through hard work, integrity, and quality craftsmanship. In 2022, we became The Otter Guys. While our name changed, our commitment never did. For more than

60 years, we've proudly delivered trusted plumbing, heating, cooling, and now electrical services with professionalism and genuine care. Meet Matt Woodson — Our Electrical Department Manager! ⚡🔧

We're excited to introduce Matt Woodson, the leader of our brand-new Electrical Department! 🎉⚡
Matt brings an impressive 24 years in the electrical trade, getting his start in 2002 and earning his Master Electrician's License in 2022 right here in Central Virginia.

But it's not all wires, breakers, and electrical panels for Matt!
Born and raised in Charlottesville, Matt is a true family man who loves spending time with his loved ones, relaxing, and getting out on the water for some fishing. 🎣

🐾 Favorite Pet: His dog, Bella
🍕 Favorite Food: Pepperoni and bacon pizza
🔧 Favorite Part of the Job: Troubleshooting and meeting new people

And when we asked Matt what "SERVICE LIKE NO OTTER!" means to him, his answer was exactly what we hoped to hear:

Meet Devin Cochran — Our HVAC Service Manager! 🔥❄️

From an entry-level tech in 2018 to HVAC Service Manager — Devin is our prime example of "started from the bottom, now we're here!" 🎶🔧 He worked his way through Maintenance Technician → Service Technician → HVAC Service Manager, proving that hard work, dedication, and a passion for the trade really do pay off!

Along the way, Devin earned his NATE certification, received his Journeyman License in September 2024 and his Master License in October 2025. With 8 years of experience actively growing in the trade, Devin is always looking for the next thing to learn and another way to improve.

Devin is passionate about his family and his community. When he's not working, you'll most likely find him fishing or out creating memories with the five women in his life — his wife and four daughters!

🍝 Favorite Food: Chicken Alfredo
🔧 Favorite Part of the Job: Building the HVAC Service Department through good teamwork, quality communication, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

As the first person to step into the HVAC Service Manager role at The Otter Guys, Devin is excited about building something great and creating a department where communication, teamwork, and quality service come first.

MEET THE TEAM MONDAYS 🦦

Meet Our Plumbing Manager: Tony Jenkins! 🔧💧

Tony is the live wire of our office. If things are unusually quiet around here, it's a safe bet he's out for the day. Between the great jokes and the plumbing stories, he's the connector who keeps the whole plumbing team from springing a leak!

46 years in the plumbing trade — and he'll be the first to tell you he's still learning every day.

We're incredibly proud to have someone with this level of experience leading our plumbing team. Born and raised in Somerset, Kentucky, Tony has proudly called Virginia home for the past 50 years. That's half a century of Virginia experience, knowledge, and community!

His plumbing career spans an incredible 46 years. First licensed in 1983— and he's never stopped adding to what he knows. Over the years, he continued to expand his expertise, eventually earning his master-level licenses in both Virginia and Maryland.

His impressive credentials include:
🔧 Master Plumber – Virginia & Maryland
🚽 Master Sewerage Installer
📋 Master Plumbing Inspector
💧 Master Septic Installer
🔨 Master Plumbing Contractor

So, after 46 years, what's his favorite part of the job? Still learning every day. Tony believes there's always something new to pick up — and what he enjoys most is passing it down. He loves helping his plumbers grow, sharpen their skills, and become the best they can be.

When he's not working, you'll usually find him at home working in the yard, laying stonework, and maintaining his beautiful home.

And of course, we must get to the important questions…
