Buzzing with excitement to share a sneak peek of the new Honeybee Research Lab at NC State University whereconstruction is nearly complete!
Nestled on the University Farm Campus, this striking building reimagines the classic barn form with a clean, modern twist. But the real magic is in a detail most people will never notice… unless they’re a honeybee.
The vibrant Barn Quilts, donated by biloba Architecture, are more than beautiful. They’re functional navigation tools. Honeybees can recognize patterns and colors, so each unique quilt marks a different observation hive. The bees simply fly into the building through dedicated tubes and head straight to their designated home.
Thoughtful design meeting living science. Beauty serving research. Form working hand-in-hand with nature. This is the kind of purposeful architecture we’ve always believed in—and we couldn’t be prouder to have contributed to a space that will help advance our understanding of these remarkable pollinators.
Here’s to buildings that don’t just stand out… they help the world work a little better. 🐝
