If there is ice on your pool, no matter what you read online, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO BREAK IT. Breaking the ice can cause tile and coping damage which is very costly. Let it thaw naturally.

If you still have power and you’re in freeze protection mode, ice may still cover the top of water. That’s ok bc it’s still running beneath the ice. Do not attempt to break it up.

For anyone who has a year round pool, here are some basic tips if you lose power:

First, make sure you cut the breakers to the pumps off. We don’t want the power coming on with ice in the lines.

Next, there are 2 threaded plugs in each pump, remove those and let the water drain from the pumps. There also similar plugs in each heater. Take those out as well. Open the air release valves on both filters.

If there’s a drain plug on a piece of equipment, remove it.

Finally, cover with a tarp. This should allow all the water to drain from the equipment and keep it from freezing and busting.

To all my customers I haven’t spoken with, I will be out there as soon as I am able ok.

If you have any questions or need any more explanation feel free to reach out. I’ve been getting texts all day. We’ve been without power since this morning ourselves.
