Terrazzo 101: Shell Chips

Shell chips introduce natural texture, shimmer, and coastal character to terrazzo. From the iridescent beauty of mother-of-pearl to the organic appeal of oyster, scallop, and other coastal shells, these specialty aggregates add to terrazzo's design possibilities.

Mother-of-pearl is the most recognized shell aggregate in terrazzo, known for its luminous finish that catches and reflects light. Coastal shell aggregates are abundant and can provide unique textures inspired by the shoreline. A small amount of Mother of Pearl in the mix design can achieve a beautiful floor finish.

Terrazzo 101: Marble Chips

Marble chips are the most traditional and widely used aggregates in the terrazzo industry. Their natural beauty, durability, and variety make them a timeless choice for terrazzo flooring.

Not all marble chips are created equal. Each color originates from specific quarries across the United States and around the world, giving every aggregate its own unique character. At Concord Terrazzo Company, we proudly source and promote domestic regional aggregates for our North Carolina facility.
