Small Test Holes. Big Decision: A few inches below the surface can shape an entire project.

Vacuum excavation allows our SUE teams to precisely access and confirm the location of critical utilities before design decisions are locked in. These targeted test holes may be small, but they inform major choices about alignment, phasing, and constructability long before construction begins.

At the points where uncertainty could ripple through the entire design, a test hole answers the question directly.

When the smallest details matter most, CES digs a little deeper.

The surface can look simple. The conditions below rarely are. Rivers, lakes, and ponds contain their own unique ecosystems and terrain, and those underwater conditions often dictate what a site can support.

Bathymetric surveying is how that hidden portion of the site is understood. Our CES survey team maps underwater depths and contours using technology like LiDAR and Sonar so our partners have a complete picture before plans are finalized. It turns water from an unknown boundary into information that can be designed around with confidence.

When projects extend into or alongside water, understanding what lies below the surface is part of understanding the site itself. What lies below the surface shapes what becomes possible.

The CityLYNX Gold Line in Charlotte represents more than a streetcar extension. It reflects a commitment to accessible public transit and long-term mobility. For Phase III of the Gold Line, CES Group Engineers provided civil design, stormwater planning, ADA compliance support, and utility coordination.
