This corner lot on Charles Ave just got a whole lot brighter 🙌

Here is the review from the owner to sum up the process:

Crown Town Landscapes installed a perennial pollinator garden in my front and side yard. I am incredibly pleased with the results, and the bees found my new garden on day 1. Rachel handled the design which encompassed everything I asked for and more. She created a beautiful design and selection of perennials that truly compliment my home. Alexander and Nick handled the complete install which included clearing the existing grass and weeds, incorporating new soil, installing the plants, installing irrigation, and mulching the entire area. They were very diligent and worked incredibly hard to make the garden come alive. They kept me informed throughout the entire install process and made sure I was happy every step of the way. Eric was also a great help ensuring the project was on track and managing the closeout. I am so pleased with my new garden. This is the first phase of my yard renovation – there will definitely be more projects with Crown Town Landscapes in the future.

This is music to our ears. Beautifying spaces while making clients and pollinators happy is exactly why we do what we do.

The art of ditching your lawn ✨

Edible landscaping where grass used to be. Dry creek bed where wash out used to occur. Natives growing and feeding pollinators where it was previously a dead zone for beneficial insects.

Front yards can be functional, beautiful, and beneficial all at once. This one proves it.

Around here, autumn is planting season.

Late September through November is one of the best windows of the year for native seed. That ten-week stretch before the first frost gives your future flowers, grasses, trees, and ground covers time to take root and build real resilience before the cold settles in. The soil is still warm. The air is cooling down. Conditions don’t get much better than this.

Nature knows what it’s doing and is dropping seeds in all the right places at all the right times. Human hands require a little more intention. Here’s where to start:

Choose wisely. Not every plant is equally suited for fall planting. Cold-tolerant natives like serviceberry and holly actually establish more heartily in cooler temperatures than they would under summer heat. Do a little research before you break out the trowels.

Size up your space. Your new plants still need sun and moisture through fall and winter. Find the spots that invite both. Where sunlight lingers longest, where rainwater collects naturally, where drainage is reliable.

W**d now, smile later. Perennial weeds compete for nutrients through the cold months. Pull them before you plant and your new natives won’t have to fight for what they need. Your spring yard will thank you too.

Go easy on the water. A few passes through fall is enough. Once temperatures drop below 40°F, overwatering risks freezing moisture in the soil and damaging roots.

Fall is one of the most important times of year for your garden beds. Before the first frost arrives, topping your beds with a layer of finished compost helps give the soil months to absorb, break down, and integrate those nutrients before spring comes.

What that means come spring: stronger root systems, healthier plants, and soil that’s ready for your seeds and seedlings.

The best compost for the job is finished, biologically active compost that’s been properly processed and is full of the microbial magic.

This front yard traded a portion of its lawn for a native pollinator garden, creating more room for bees, butterflies, birds, and other wildlife to thrive.

That pile you’re about to rake up isn’t yard waste. It’s a whole ecosystem doing exactly what it’s supposed to do.

In addition to being a safe place for pollinators to shelter, leaves also retain moisture during dry spells, insulate roots from freezing temperatures, and break down into organic matter that improves your soil structure over time.

Free fertilizer. Free mulch. Free habitat.

Blow them into your beds and let them do their thing. Mow over them, shred them, and use them as mulch. Or let us remove them — they’ll go straight to a compost facility instead of a landfill.

Just don’t trash them. 🙏
