🌿 **W**dy Wednesday: Poa Annua (Annual Bluegrass)

✅ **Appearance:** This cool-season grass is often seen as a lawn w**d due to its clumpy growth and lighter green color.
✅ **Traits:** Rapid germination and prolific seeding
✅ **Identification:** Look for boat-shaped leaf tips and distinctive seed heads.

**Why the Concern?**
While some might mistake Poa Annua for a harmless addition to the lawn, it can quickly overrun desired turfgrass species, leading to a patchy, unkempt appearance.

**Prevention**
1. **Early Intervention:** We identify it early before it spreads further, and we use our pre emergent to try and stop anymore germination.
2. **Regular Mowing:** Keep your grass at the recommended height to discourage growth and seed production.
3. **Selective Herbicides:** We use an herbicide to target Poa Annua while preserving your desired grass species.

Your lawn has been working hard all year. Now it’s time to restore the balance beneath the surface.

Your soil can gradually become more acidic throughout the year. Rainfall, fertilizer applications, and the natural breakdown of organic matter can all contribute to changes in soil pH. Over time, increasing acidity can make it more difficult for your lawn to access the nutrients it needs to thrive.

That’s where lime comes in!

Lime works to neutralize soil acidity and raise soil pH to a healthier range for your turf.

Even when nutrients are present in the soil, an imbalanced pH can limit their availability to your grass. Maintaining the proper pH is essential for nutrient uptake, strong roots, healthy growth, and a greener lawn.

Why apply lime in the fall?

Lime works gradually, reacting with the soil over time rather than delivering an immediate change. Applying it in the fall gives it time to begin working while your lawn transitions into the cooler months. It can also help prepare the soil for more effective nutrient uptake during future growing seasons.

It’s important to note that lime is not a one size fits all treatment. The ideal soil pH depends on your grass type and the conditions your lawn has been under and a soil test is the best way to determine whether your lawn needs lime and how much to apply.

Ready to give your soil the reset it needs? Ask us about our lime treatments and take the first step toward a healthier lawn from the roots up!

Clay soil is negatively charged which means adding positively charged ions (fertilizers) creates a magnet within the soil, leading to aggregates and compaction.

Liquid aeration utilizes this science to counteract compaction using a solution of negatively charged ions which will allow your soil to expand and breathe.

This drastically improves the ability of your soil to uptake nutrients and strengthen its root system without the harsh physical stress of mechanical aeration.
