TIPS FOR A BEAUTIFUL LAWN!
Turf Magic Co. wants to take pride in your lawn just as much as you do – after all, most of our references come from the reflection your lawn can provide. TEAM EFFORT is a main ingredient and we need your help to achieve the best results possible. Below are some key factors that we need your help on.
1. Keep the mower on the highest level
The higher the grass blade is maintained, the deeper the roots will be. Deep roots can make use of more soil nutrients and are kept cooler since they’re further from the sun. Thicker grass will be the result and this naturally helps to “crowd out” w**ds. The higher grass blade will also shade the root system better. Turf mowed too short will develop only shallow roots and will become thin, thus allowing w**d invasion to be more likely as well as browning due to stress. Cut high early so the root system is established before the hot weather arrives.
2. Mowing frequency should always be done according to your lawn’s rate of growth.
Removing more than 1/3 of the grass blade can stress the lawn. Imagine the stress you’d create if you trimmed your trees & bushes by 50%. If you trimmed this much at once, it will likely kill the plant. The grass plant will also be subject to great stress unless you focus on cutting only 30% or so when you mow. While the weather is cool and wet, your lawn may need mowing in 4 or 5 day intervals. When it becomes hot and dry, it may slow down to 8 or 10 day intervals.
3.Watering is generally not necessary until temperatures reach 77 degrees or above, unless we have a dry spring. When you water, saturate the soil to a depth of 6-8 inches. Watering deeply encourages deep roots and a healthy lawn. Frequent light watering tends to encourage shallow roots and a thin lawn. Watering in the morning is preferable. Try to AVOID WATERING IN THE EVENING, however, any time of the day is better than not at all during periods of severe drought.
