The happiest ensuite 🫧☀️🛁

Just off the bedroom you saw yesterday, this bathroom is purposefully designed to be easy and comfortable for the littles.
Fun blue tile AND ceiling? Yes. Big splashy bathtub with lots of light? Done. Playful art? Of course. And, a convenient step stool built right into the cabinetry (yes, it slides in and out just like a drawer! 🙌).

Our favorite might be... well, all of it 🤭 But, the two transom windows that flood room with the sunniest light make this room such a happy space.
Small spaces, with big impact- bringing ease, comfort, color, and joy to the everyday.

Time to play ✨️🧸🚂

This kids suite is full of thoughtful design. A hand-drawn custom bunk bed combo we had made just for the space, cozy reading nooks, storage to tuck away toys, an art table, and a giant custom made magnet board to get creative (and show off our creations, of course!).
One of our favorite parts is the modular sectional, which can be rearranged to any configuration you like it. Super soft for snuggles, and super sturdy to handle big playing from the littles.

When we design a kids (or grandkids) room, we're thinking about comfort, play, and imagination right alongside function and aesthetics. We think forward to how it can bring them as much joy as possible, and craft a space where they will hopefully feel deeply, wonderfully at home.

The hangout room, the study space, and the retreat 🎧️🛹

Designing rooms for the younger ones is (not so) secretly one of our favorite parts of this work. It's a unique kind of design challenge- how do we make it feel youthful in just the right ways, but still a space they can comfortably grow into over the years.

We love this room for it's light, serene feel and clean lines. The custom built-ins are the secret heroes of this room- creating SO much function and storage, and strategically tucked along the wall to keep the room feeling spacious.

For us, the real joy comes in finding all the different ways we can make the space unique to them. A retreat when they need it, a friend hangout when they want it. And most of all, a space that functions beautifully, with room for all their memories-in-the-making ::

Transforming this space from an empty 2nd floor landing to an office, cozy library, and dedicated literary paradise ✨️

If you've been following this Chapel Hill Mid-Century home, you know that these Tarheel Alums are AVID readers. They have books of every kind, every age, and every subject, from all over the world. Their house is filled with stories, and it brings them so much joy.

A huge part of this design was creating ways for their passion for reading to be a natural part of their home. In this 2nd floor loft space/landing, we saw a perfect opportunity for their books to take up residence in a way that felt intentional, collected, and cohesive- turning this into a space filled to the brim with purpose and enjoyment.

Wrap-around built-in shelves frame the space, surrounding a desk/workspace, a funky mid-century reading chair, and a plush chaise for those times when relaxing with a good book is the order of the day.
The footprint of this loft is small, but a meaningful design makes it a beautiful, multi-functional, cozy space that adds so much to the home.

Almost back to school time, and the room is ready 📚️

A new school year is one of our favorite times to refresh spaces, and nothing is more fun than creating a joyful spot for the littles to call their own. In this historic Chapel Hill home, the goal was creating a room that felt playful, while still aligning with the historic character of this gorgeous 100+ year old cottage.

Stately stripes and classic navy paired with fun touches, furry friends, and of course, a bit of love for the home team 🐏
It's the mix of old and new, collected and playful that felt just right in this space.

Like many of us, this client dreamed of a home that was designed to fit her whole family, including her extended family. A home made for gathering together in comfort and ease, with plenty of room for everyone. And a key part of this family-centered design was this cozy, plush den.

If you've taken a peek at the full home, you know that the majority of the design is open, airy, and light- which was perfect for this client. BUT, they also needed a space that was a little quieter, a little cozier, and a little more private, for those moments when visiting family (and their littles) might want a little down time. Designed for everything from reading in the perfect armchair to playing on the soft inset carpet to watching movies on the plush sectional, this room does it all, and elegantly. Bright when you want it, dark when you prefer it, deeply cozy while still feeling spacious. Everything this client wanted was crafted into a perfect "bonus" retreat, tucked away on the main level.

And, there's a hidden (yes, hidden!) en-suite bath. Look out for it here tomorrow ✨️

Small spaces, big impact 🔥

This mudroom/drop-zone sits tucked away at the back of the home. In the busyness of daily life, it's easy to see it as just a space of transition, a quick in-and-out.
When we're at the drawing board designing, we consider not just individual rooms, but the home as a whole- and the rhythms of our clients' lives.
As the primary entry and exit point for the family, a mudroom sees a LOT of use. It's the last thing you see before you leave, and the first thing you see when you come back. It's a small but impactful space that low-key sets the tone for your entire home.

All that's to say: why not design it with intention, and make it a functional, beautiful, durable, and cohesive part of daily living? Should the mudroom bring you joy? Our answer is a resounding yes. Fill it with personality and soul, and let it be the first space to tell the story of your beautiful home.

The show-stopper for this room was the textured wood wallpaper, in a geometric tone-on-tone pattern that echoes the colorful mid-century modern character of this home. Make it pop with vibrant ochre-hued wainscoting. Bring in ample storage, with custom upholstery to make it feel intentional and thoughtful. Finish it with not just any circular rug- a funky twist on shape and pattern, while still making it a plush and cozy entry. It's a true invitation to the rest of the home, and we couldn't love it more.
