The security market is being flooded with this kind of stuff. We have become so addicted to 'smart phones' that virtually any piece of junk that can be used with them is automatically looked upon as being 'better', 'smarter'. I have not seen this product and my comments regarding this type of device are meant generically rather than specifically.

Save your money. The out of work computer techs looking to make a living designing these 'smart' products don't have a clue as to how criminals think or how most break ins occur. 99+% of residential break-ins occur during the day when no one is home. They typically do not stay in the house for more than a couple of minutes, what we call a 'smash and grab job', and are gone by the time Police arrive. They automatically ASSUME the house is alarmed and that Police are on the way.

Heck, if professionally installed and monitored alarms can't stop this kind of break-in then a DIY install using products of questionable quality sure isn't going to either. I'm sure it DOES have value as an intercom, it's certainly an improvement over a peephole, and also has value with internal security problems regarding mis-use of a key but if you think this will stop a thief intent on breaking in, well, i disagree....

The term 'smart' is designed to give you that warm, fuzzy feeling of security.........until you come home to find your $10 mis-installed lock has been opened with one casual kick.

Special sale through 8/31/17. Schlage B365 electronic deadbolts reduced from $325 to $250. This price includes the lock, high security strike plate, trip charge, labor to install and initial programming and comes with a 2 year part and labor warranty.

I have been installing keyless locks for almost 40 years and this is the most reliable one i have found for the residential market. It can have as many as 19 individual codes and once installed codes can be added/deleted in seconds by the homeowner.

Unlike most electronic locks which sell convenience at the expense of physical security this lock is designed to withstand a real beating.

It is available in satin nickle, polished brass nd oil rubbed bronze.

Over $400 on a $35 estimate. This is almost 10 years old and has gotten worse since then. Watch these criminals attempt to rip off this woman until the hidden news team comes out, they then scurry away like cockroaches when the lights turn on.

NO ONE is going to protect you from them. Internet search engines refuse to do any form of background check as it will diminish their ad revenues. Roy Cooper at least made an attempt and managed to shut down a few operations but as soon as one shuts down they bounce right back with a different name.

Only YOU can prevent this. If you must use the internet to find a service provider do licensing and background checks before hiring them. The vast majority of ads you will see are for criminal outfits like this one.

The internet search engines will sell an ad to anyone pretending to be a locksmith. Apx. 75% of the listings are for fake, unlicensed scammers posing as locksmiths. Here's a story of what happens when you call one.

This recently happened to an 18 year old and was relayed to me by his Mom.

He was locked out of his car at 2AM after finishing work. He called a company listed on Google as "locally owned and family operated". They quoted him $35. When they arrived [3 people on a 1 person job=intimidation factor] they immediately told him that he had "special locks" and that it would cost $250. Feeling pressured and scared he agreed. They opened the car and gave him a hand written drugstore type generic receipt.

The next day he was unable to get into his car, they had disconnected the linkages. It had to be towed to a garage and the repair was over $500. His Mom called the number on his receipt to find it was fake. The kid remembered what the ad looked like and his Mom called them to compain and seek reimbursement. As she put it: "I got someone who could barely speak English but knew enough to curse at me, deny having done the work and threatening me with harrassment charges if i called again".

Don't let this happen to you or your friends. If you need a locksmith it is imperative that you ask for their NC Locksmith License number and then check it on this link as the scammers are now giving out phony numbers.

The old day yellow pages would not sell an ad until proper licensing was verified. The new day internet only checks to make sure you have the financial ability to pay for it.

Statewide media outlets have shed light onto unlicensed locksmith work recently. Follow any of these links to see stories and videos of investigative reporting about this illegal activity.

Finally Google is recognizing the problem they created and attempting to correct it...after 10 years refusing to check credentials before selling an ad. i have met dozens of Triangle folks, each beaten for a thousand dollars or more...on an original price quote of $35.

A cursory Google search for "Chapel Hill Locksmiths" this morning showed that over 75% of the listings fall in the "scammer" category.

if you are calling a locksmith it is IMPERATIVE to ask for the owners name and NC license number, as well as the name and license number of the technician they send. if you don't get an immediate answer...HANG UP. Don't become another victim.

Thank you to Google for finally admitting their error and attempting to correct it!
