Have you ever lifted the lid on your irrigation box and heard buzzing? Most people never check. The lid sits flat in the grass and the box gets forgotten until something goes wrong.

Levi was out at a home in the East Valley this week showing one of the most common spots bees build in Phoenix yards. That little hole on the side of the box is just big enough for a scout bee to slip through, and once a colony moves in, the hive can stay hidden for months.

Arizona has one of the biggest Africanized bee populations in the country, so a surprise encounter can turn aggressive fast. If you ever get into it with a swarm, the best thing you can do is run in a straight line at least a quarter mile, or get indoors or inside a car. A pool will not save you.

Our technicians inspect irrigation boxes, valve covers, and other quiet spots when we are out at homes in Gilbert, Chandler, Maricopa, Queen Creek, and across the Phoenix metro. Call (480) 864-2728 or visit https://lunarpestcontrol.com/pest-control/bee-treatment to set up an inspection.

Quick wildlife note from our team. Raccoons are not what most Phoenix homeowners picture when they think pest issues. We are a desert. But certain pockets of the valley have real raccoon activity, and when one gets into an attic the damage adds up fast.

A raccoon in an attic will tear open stucco, claw through wood, rip apart AC ducts, and destroy the insulation. They also create latrines, which are designated spots where the same animal returns to defecate over and over. Those latrines carry parasites and disease that should never be sitting above your living space.

The detail most homeowners miss. Raccoons have hands, not paws. They can pull standard mesh and screening apart with their fingers. Real exclusion has to be custom-cut metal, fitted and anchored so the animal cannot work it loose.

If you are hearing big noises in your attic in Scottsdale, Cave Creek, Carefree, Paradise Valley, or anywhere else with raccoon activity, call us. This is one to handle quickly.

You hear something moving around in your attic. Most homeowners either ignore it and hope it stops, or grab a flashlight and head up to look. Both of those usually end with a bigger problem six months down the road.

A first-time attic inspection by a homeowner almost always ends one of two ways. The pest gets misidentified, which leads to the wrong solution. Or no evidence is found at all, which leads to the assumption that the noise was nothing. Neither of those is true. Something is up there.

Different attic pests need very different fixes. Roof rats, raccoons, birds, and pack rats all require different exclusion work. Pick the wrong one and the original problem keeps growing while you spend money on the wrong solution.

Our wildlife team does inspections across Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Queen Creek, Scottsdale, and the wider Phoenix metro. If you are hearing something up there, the first move is a real inspection. We will tell you what is up there and what it actually takes to fix it.

Quick mosquito reality check for the Phoenix metro. A mosquito needs about as much standing water as fits inside a bottle cap to lay eggs and produce more mosquitoes. That is it.

Most homeowners we visit are convinced they have no standing water on the property. Then we walk the yard and find pooled water in the downspout catch pan, a wet spot under the AC condensation line, water sitting in a plant saucer, and a low pocket in the yard drain that does not fully drain after the system runs.

For active pooling our licensed technicians apply a larvicide, which legally requires a specific aquatic certification because you are treating a body of water. For ongoing pressure we set controlled breeding stations that draw females in with pheromones and kill the eggs and the adult.

Our service team handles mosquito work across Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Queen Creek, Surprise, Buckeye, and most of the Phoenix metro. If yours have gotten worse this month, the source is almost always within a few feet of the house.

Ever had a pest company come out, treat your home, and then suddenly you are seeing more bugs than you did before? That happens more often than you might think, and there is a real reason for it.

Our technicians use insecticide dusts under the J-trim of your home and liquid products that contain flushing agents. Those flushing agents agitate insects that have been hiding in tight spaces inside your walls, weep holes, and exterior trim. The insects come out. You see them. It feels like the treatment made things worse.

It did not. You had those insects the whole time. They were just hidden. After that first week or two, the activity drops off and stays down, because the population has been forced out of the spaces you could not reach on your own.

Our service team treats homes across Gilbert, Chandler, Mesa, Queen Creek, Surprise, and the wider Phoenix metro. If you have just had your first treatment and you are seeing more than you expected, that is normal. Give it a couple of weeks.

Drain flies and other small flies coming up out of your sink? Bleach almost never solves it.

Drain flies breed in the biological gunk that coats the inside of your drain. They lay eggs in it, hatch out, and the cycle repeats. But drains aren't the only place they breed. Standing water anywhere in the house works just as well.

Where to look:
1. Potted plants that are overwatered, especially the saucer underneath
2. Catch pans under appliances
3. Slow leaks under the sink

Quick test: tape a piece of clear packing tape over the drain you suspect, sticky side down. Leave it overnight. If you find flies stuck to it the next morning, that's your source.

Treatment uses a sewer-safe chemical to kill what's breeding in the biological material, then we clear the drain with an enzymatic cleaner. Bleach is more dangerous and less effective.

Most pest control companies don't think to check the sewer line for rats. The roof rats in the Valley use sewer plumbing as a regular route into homes, especially anything built before 1985 with original cast iron, and newer remodels with disconnected or dead-end lines.

When our smoke test confirms rats are coming up through the sewer, we don't just shrug. We work with Josh at Yellowstone Plumbing to locate the failure and seal it. He's been our go-to plumber for these jobs for years because he actually finds the problem and fixes it.

Homeowners sometimes call their own plumber first, who says "impossible, rats don't come from the sewer." We see it constantly. Cast iron fails. Construction is poor. Lines disconnect. Dead-end lines open into attics. Rats find every one of those openings.

If you suspect rats and someone has told you it's impossible, get a second look.

Three common stinging pests, three completely different nests. Here's how to tell them apart from a distance.

Paper wasps build umbrella-shaped, papery nests with open hexagonal cells, often tucked under the lip of stucco walls or in similar protected spots. They're by far the most common in the Valley.

Yellow jackets nest in the ground. You almost never see them out here in Arizona, and most people who do find them only realize it after stepping on the hive.

Hornets build the big enclosed, egg-shaped paper nests you usually picture when someone says wasp nest. Less common in this area but worth knowing.

Treatment is almost always an aerosol from a safe distance, then we remove the nest and saturate the area so returning foragers can't rebuild.

If you have a nest you want gone, give us a call.

The biggest mistake homeowners make with w**ds isn't using the wrong product. It's not staying on top of it.

Most people grab something at the store, do a round of treatment, then get pulled into work or family and don't follow through. The w**ds keep growing because nobody put down pre-emergent to stop new seeds from sprouting.

Our w**d service runs every six months. We kill what's there now, then put down pre-emergent so new growth doesn't come up between visits. Your yard stays clean without you having to remember to spray.

The Arizona bark scorpion is one of the most dangerous things you'll find in your yard. Banner has logged over 200 sting calls just recently.

If you're worried about scorpions, grab a black light and check the yard after dark. Walk the block walls, the foundation, the columns, around your plants. That's where they hide.

It's also exactly where our initial treatments target: foundation, block walls, and every crack and crevice we can find. We treat the food sources too, since killing the scorpions without addressing what they're eating just brings new ones back.

If you're seeing them in your yard, call us.
