I’m currently shopping for new carpet, and it reminded me that the same color theory I use when selecting paint colors also applies to flooring. With so many small carpet samples to choose from, it can be difficult to visualize the final result, and just like paint, the right undertone can make all the difference in how a room feels.

Here are a few tips that can help you through the process:

• Bring the samples home whenever possible.
• Lay the samples flat on the floor in the actual room.
• View them at different times of the day to see how the lighting changes the color.
• Compare the carpet samples with your wall color, cabinetry, furniture, and flooring to ensure everything coordinates beautifully.

My new client recently had their home painted, but the final result didn’t feel quite right, and sadly they were preparing for a complete repaint. 💰💰

They searched for help and contacted me for a color consultation. I recommended keeping the existing body color and selected a light accent color. By removing the majority of the pop-outs, the home instantly felt more inviting. Highlighting the garage doors also helped draw the focal point closer to the entrance creating better balance. With the darker contrast minimized the garage and entryways existing architectural details became the true highlight of the home.

A repaint was necessary but we optimized the process to reduce the scope of work and cost, and the clients are now pleased with the look of their home.
