Same board. Different stage of the journey.

This is cherry wood. 🍒🪵

The board on top is fresh off the sawmill—rough-cut, dusty, and hiding its true character. The board below is that exact same piece of cherry after being planed and sanded.

Amazing what a little work can reveal. The rich grain, flowing lines, and natural beauty were there all along, just waiting to come to the surface.

One of our favorite parts of woodworking is witnessing that transformation. You never quite know what treasure is hiding inside a log until you give it the chance to shine. ✨

Cherry starts out this light pinkish-tan color and naturally darkens over time with exposure to light, developing that rich reddish-brown patina it's famous for.

While Louie is inside working on another project, I'm out in the back room here at LSL Woodworks monitoring the XTOOL D1 Pro as I finish up a custom engraving order for a client.

Not a bad view for a Sunday morning. ☀️🌳

Doing work we enjoy, side by side, surrounded by a little piece of God's country. ❤️

One final video from the sawmill today...

After spending the day grazing on logs, it appears the mighty Dig-a-lot-osaurus has shared part of his meal with his cousin, Saws-osaurus. 🦖🌳🪵

As the feast comes to an end, Dig-a-lot-osaurus can be seen proudly surveying his work, jaws wide open in what experts believe is either laughter... or bragging. 😆

Scientists are still studying this rare behavior, but early reports suggest the creature is extremely pleased with itself and may be expecting praise for a job well done.

Fortunately for me, I don't have to imagine what life would be like with dinosaurs roaming the property...
I'm married to one...a rare breed all on his own ❤️😂

Coffee Table Alert 👀

Louie may have just found the next coffee table project.

This red oak log opened up beautifully on the sawmill today, revealing some gorgeous figure and rich color hidden inside. Sometimes you never know what Mother Nature has tucked away until the blade makes that first pass.
Safe to say this one earned a spot in the "future project" pile.

Now the hard part... waiting for it to dry. 😆

BREAKING NEWS:
Scientists have identified a new dinosaur species at LSL Woodworks. 🦖🚜

Meet the Dig-a-lot-osaurus.

Known for its bright orange coloring and appetite for plant-based meals, this rare creature can often be spotted near the sawmill munching on freshly harvested logs. 🌳😂

And yes... my husband painted eyes on our excavator.

I am married to a goofball but wouldn't trade for anything...not even another baby goat 😆❤️

🪵 LIVE from the Sawmill This Saturday! 🪵

There's something pretty satisfying about turning a pile of logs into beautiful, usable lumber.

This Saturday, Louie will be going LIVE on TikTok as he fires up the Woodland Mills portable sawmill and starts milling some of these logs into future woodworking projects right here at LSL Woodworks!

Who says we were taking the day off? 😆

Turns out "taking a day off" for a woodworker means a trip to Lowe's for a few hand tools to keep at the house... because apparently I come up with enough projects that he shouldn't have to drive back to the shop every time I need something done. 🔨

🔨🌿 A Different Kind of Workday at LSL Woodworks

After a busy couple of weeks in the shop, today looks a little different for us at LSL Woodworks.

The tools are quiet and new projects are on hold for today. It's time to tackle some farm chores at the house and enjoy some quiet time.
(Although if you know us, downtime just means adding to our to-do list 😆)

We wear many hats, and today the "farmhand" hat gets the spotlight.

Here's to taking a day to recharge, enjoy some downtime, and appreciate the simple things that make all the hard work worthwhile. 🌞🚜🐐

Our official Open House Greeters Flynn & Deluca would like to thank everyone who stopped by LSL Woodworks today!

We were blessed with beautiful weather, great conversations, familiar faces, new friends, and a wonderful turnout throughout the day.

Seeing so many people take an interest in Louie's craftsmanship, touring the shop, and supporting a local small business means more than we can put into words.

Flynn and Deluca seemed to enjoy all the attention too! 🐐❤️

After such a great response, we're excited to say that we think this may become an annual spring tradition at LSL Woodworks.

Thank you for your support, your encouragement, and for spending part of your Saturday with us. We can't wait to do it again next year!
