Turn the heat on for the first time in months and notice a dusty smell?
That can happen as dust that’s settled during the warmer months heats up.
But there’s a difference between a temporary dusty smell and something that smells electrical, smoky or continues long after the system has been running.
Your nose can sometimes be a pretty useful HVAC warning system.
And yes, “something smells weird” is a perfectly acceptable description when you call us. 😄

A commercial HVAC problem doesn’t always start with the heating or cooling equipment.
Sensors, thermostats, controllers, dampers and building automation all play a part in telling equipment what to do and when to do it.
That’s why good diagnostics go beyond simply asking whether the unit is running.
Sometimes the equipment is doing exactly what it’s being told. The question is whether it’s being told the right thing.

Colorado fall likes to keep everyone guessing.
Warm afternoon? The AC might still kick in. Cold morning? Suddenly you’re reaching for the heat.
This is the time of year when both sides of your HVAC system can get called into action, sometimes within the same 24 hours.
If you haven’t tested your heating yet, now is a much better time than the first properly cold morning.

All in the same building. 😅
Before blaming the person who last touched the thermostat, inconsistent temperatures across a commercial space can be worth investigating.
Airflow, zoning, controls, sun exposure, occupancy and the way different areas of the building are used can all affect comfort.
Sometimes the office temperature debate actually has a technical answer.

Colorado weather doesn’t always wait for the calendar to change seasons.
We’re entering that time of year when the AC can still be running during a warm afternoon, while the heat might be needed the next morning.
That makes now a good time to make sure your system is ready for the changeover, not just the cooling side you’ve relied on all summer.
A little preparation now can save a much less convenient surprise when the first proper cold spell arrives.

When people think about HVAC, they usually think about heating or cooling the air.
But that air also has to get where it’s supposed to go.
The blower helps move conditioned air through the system and ductwork.
That’s why an airflow problem can sometimes feel like a heating or cooling problem.
Weak airflow at the vents, rooms that never quite get comfortable or noticeable differences between areas of the building can all be clues worth investigating.
HVAC isn’t only about making air hot or cold.
It’s also about moving it properly.
