Chimney Leak Caught Before It Got Worse 🏠

Homeowner bought a new home, stunning house, but the inspection report flagged rotted wood inside the chimney. Here’s what we found:

The chimney cap was installed before the stucco, so the only thing sealing that joint was caulk. Caulk always fails eventually. Water’s been sneaking in for years.

Lower down, the stucco had deteriorated from water damage, and the kick-out flashing was in the wrong spot to divert water away.

The fix:
• Custom cap built to wrap outside the stucco — no caulk dependency
• New kick-out flashing, properly located
• Remove stucco, replace rotted plywood, new stucco
• Refresh the chimney and re-shingle around it
• Replace a missing vinyl strip causing a separate window leak

Good news: the rest of the roof is solid. Some hail damage on the soft metals and minor hits on the shingles — nothing urgent today, but a good reminder to check your policy coverage before the next hail storm, not after.

🌳🏠 TREE DAMAGE ON A NEWER ROOF? 🏠🌳

Today, Right On Roofing is out in Ladonia, Texas 📍 checking a relatively new roof for a homeowner who recently had a tree fall on their home. 🌳💥🏠

Unfortunately, the roof does have damage from the impact, and we'll be assessing the full extent of the damages and what will be needed to get it repaired correctly. 🔨🔍✅

This roof was installed within the last couple of years by a different contractor, and while we're inspecting it, we've already noticed a couple of things we would have recommended doing differently:

🏠 Installing a chimney cricket to properly divert water around the chimney.

🔨 Using the correct matching ridge shingles instead of incorrectly using field shingles on the ridge.

A roof can look good from the ground and still have installation issues that can cause problems down the road. 👀⚠️

🏠 Ridge Shingle Repair

Client called us right away after spotting shingles on the ground — turned out 7 ridge shingles had blown off the roof.

This is actually pretty common on newer construction. Nails often get over-driven during install, and once the factory seal starts to wear, there’s not much left holding those shingles down.

We got up there, replaced the missing shingles, and sealed up several exposed nail heads where the original seals had failed.

💡 Takeaway: Regular roof inspections catch this stuff before it turns into a bigger (and pricier) problem. If you haven’t had an inspection in a while, you are overdue. Call me and let’s make your roof last as long as possible.
