Good to Know: Roofing Edition

The vents on your roof matter more than you think.

We walk a lot of roofs, and you’d be surprised how often the ventilation isn’t set up right.
This could be mixed vent types, uneven placement, or not enough intake vs exhaust.

Why that matters:
Poor ventilation traps heat and moisture in your attic, which can shorten the life of your shingles, raise energy costs, and even lead to mold over time.

Just one of those things that’s… good to know.

Yesterday we had experienced some scattered storms. Today, we have been helping to put things back together!

Across Iowa city, West Branch, Cedar Rapids and more, many homeowners had experienced 1” all the way up to 2.5” hail. If you were impacted please make sure to have a professional inspection done by a local trusted contractor before involving a claim.

When your shingles don't match, insurance may classify the roof as "non-uniform" or "previously altered."

Why it matters: This can change how future claims are paid, or altered.

Roofing insight: We often see claims greatly impacted because of old patch jobs that weren't executed properly and have been treated with less care or importance.

Leak after leak? Here's what I found..

This homeowner had multiple patches from past repairs, all meant to extend the roof's life, but unfortunately the leaks never stopped.

Good to Know: Roofing Edition

Roofs don’t usually get attention until something goes wrong… and by then it’s expensive.

Once a month, I’ll share one quick roofing fact I wish every homeowner knew ahead of time.

This month I’m pondering how just one shingle can lead to a costly repair.

Fact: A single missing or cracked shingle can allow water to seep into your roof system.
Why it matters: Moisture spreads fast, and what looks minor today can rot decking by spring. By then, in order to fix that one shingle we may need to adress the whole area.. and that’s not even considering if anything made its way into the attic!

I was out picking up dinner for my family when the storm suddenly hit! I wasn't expecting any severe weather, and I imagine you weren't either.

Tonight we had scattered hail across Iowa averaging 3/4” and we saw up to 1 1/2” even in Cedar Rapids. Luckily winds somewhat stayed down, at least from what is currently reported, around 60 mph gusts in a similar path.

Let’s be honest—most homeowners don’t think about their roof until there’s a leak or something goes wrong.
