Some of you may be familiar with “The Big Drop,” a fun Cedar Rapids tradition that takes place each year at the Cedar Rapids Farmers Market!

One of our Anderson Bogert employees is proud to be a member of the Cedar Rapids West Rotary, the organization behind this amazing tradition. Beginning in 1980, Cedar Rapids West Rotary is the second-oldest Rotary club in Cedar Rapids. The club is dedicated to giving back to our community by volunteering and raising funds to support local schools, youth organizations all while having fun along the way!

Anderson Bogert has been a long-time sponsor for this fundraiser, and this year we provided the hard hats for The Big Drop! We’re proud to support a tradition that brings the Cedar Rapids community together and gives back to local educational organizations.

🏘️ Project Spotlight : The Atheneum Apartments 🏘️
The Atheneum Apartment site development involves a low-income apartment complex located on the northeast corner of Wiley Blvd SW and 20th Avenue in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The site is approximately 12 acres and generally consists of undeveloped land which was rezoned to Suburban Residential Medium Flex (S-RMF). The project includes eight 3 story apartment buildings (192 units), garage units, clubhouse and office building, mail kiosk, trash/recycling facilities, EV infrastructure, playground, dog park, trail along 20th Avenue and other minor recreational amenities. Anderson Bogert completed the topographic survey, boundary survey, site development plan, final plat, and site plan of improvements. The site and buildings were designed in coordination with the adjacent 18th Avenue reconstruction project and the new West Side Library site. Construction is slated to start in late 2026.

⚾ Anderson Bogert at the Ballpark! ⚾

Anderson Bogert had the opportunity to head out to a Kernels game Tuesday night, and what a great night it was! We enjoyed an evening filled with baseball, great weather, good food, and even better company. And of course, ABES, our favorite company mascot, was there to join in on the fun!

Events like these are a great way for our team to step away from the office, spend time together, and build relationships outside of the workplace. We’re grateful for the opportunity to enjoy some time together and make some great memories as a team!

A successful recreational trail begins long before construction starts.

Anderson-Bogert teamed with the City of Cedar Rapids to design safety and operational improvements to the downtown Cedar Rapids Union Pacific Railroad corridor. Construction got off and running this week with track and crossing panel replacements. The project will help to make the crossings safer for vehicles and pedestrians while also helping the warning systems operate more efficiently and effectively.

🚗 Project Spotlight: University of Iowa Five-Year Surface Parking Lot Maintenance Plan 🚗

When it comes to managing infrastructure, planning ahead pays dividends. That's why the University of Iowa once again partnered with Anderson Bogert to develop a comprehensive Five-Year Surface Parking Lot Maintenance Plan, marking the second time our team has been selected to help guide the University's long-term parking infrastructure investments.

The University maintains approximately 76 surface parking lots with nearly 17,500 parking spaces serving students, faculty, staff, patients, visitors, and event attendees across campus. To evaluate the condition of these facilities, our team combined drone mapping, aerial photography, historical maintenance records, and field verification to identify pavement maintenance needs and develop a strategic five-year improvement program.

The resulting plan provides lot-by-lot maintenance recommendations, budget-level cost opinions, and a prioritized capital improvement program designed to maximize pavement life while minimizing future repair costs. By focusing on preventative maintenance strategies such as crack sealing, pavement patching, and seal coating, the University can address issues early, before they become more costly rehabilitation or reconstruction projects.

One aspect of this study we're especially proud of is the use of drone technology to efficiently document and evaluate dozens of parking facilities across multiple campuses. This approach allowed us to gather high-quality data while minimizing disruption to daily campus operations.

The study demonstrated that the University's surface parking system represents an infrastructure asset valued at approximately $175 million. By investing an average of about $485,000 annually in preventative maintenance, the University can help extend pavement life, improve safety, reduce emergency repairs, and delay major capital expenditures.

Projects like this may not always be the most visible, but they play an important role in supporting students, faculty, staff, patients, and visitors every day. We're proud to continue supporting the University of Iowa with practical, data-driven solutions that protect critical infrastructure and serve the campus community for years to come.
