Today is Eric’s first day with us.

Eric happened to randomly stop into our office Tuesday this week and drop off a resume.

We were able to get Eric two interviews on Tuesday and an offer letter yesterday.

He moved his family to Cedar Rapids from Washington state just 10 days ago.

25 years of great carpentry skills and ready to work.

Happy to have him with us. He did say he was leaving for the day, not for good. We’ll be excited if he comes back tomorrow 😁

This is a "re-deck" in composite done about 5 years or so ago. 33 year old framing. It should NOT have been re-decked. It's not safe and it wasn't safe 5 or 6 years ago.

We do a lot of "re-decks" meaning we can salvage the framing and repurpose to new materials.

BUT, this requires a lot of standards to be met; lumber has to be in good shape, structure has to meet our certain standards and the ability to make it acceptable to last a long time.
Many of our re-decks will get some new joists, added flashings at the house, joist tape, notching a sandwiched beam in, rebuilding stair, etc. Every situation is different.

This is piss-poor and I somewhat feel bad for these people. This deck has loose railings, ROTTEN POSTS, stairs don't even meet previous codes for width. And the decking is horrible.

We also get permits for re-decks.

Long story short, find out who you are hiring. People see dollar signs and make questionable decisions.

One of our own did actually turn 21 last week.

Zach and Lizzie share a birthday. Unfortunately for us Zach was in Florida that day so not able to celebrate.

A few of us took Lizzie out for a lot of tequila on her 21st (her first time drinking, of course).

And she didn’t even get carded 🤷‍♂️

Birthday lunch for 3 people today! Angie, Lizzie and Zach.

They all miraculously turned 21 around the same time frame 😉

When a quick 20 square roof turns into replacing 27 sheets of 75 year old 3/8 delaminated plywood.
The last roof she got 6 years ago they charged her 3k for 20 sheets.
They should have all been replaced then, but not at that price.

Update on the big kitchen project. We are now doing this as an entry into the Fall Parade of Homes. Fun stuff!
