Please join us in celebrating two exciting promotions at Emergent Architecture!

Nick Nugent has been promoted to Associate Principal, becoming the first person in Emergent’s history to hold this title. Ted Friesner has been promoted to Director of Technical Practice, a role focused on strengthening the quality and consistency of our work.

Nick and Ted have both been part of Emergent since our founding in 2017. Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to helping others succeed have made a lasting impact on our team and the firm we are today.

Great communities start with great spaces for their youngest learners.

When Riceville Community School District identified childcare as a growing community need, they partnered with Emergent Architecture to create the Little Cats Daycare Addition. The project expanded daycare capacity, introduced bright and engaging classrooms, improved outdoor play areas, and created a safe, welcoming environment where children can learn, play, and grow.

This project demonstrates how thoughtful design can support families, strengthen school districts, and invest in the future of rural communities.

Please join us in welcoming Vishnu Priya Sai Ramesh to Emergent Architecture as an Architectural Associate. 🙌

Vishnu brings a thoughtful, creative approach to design with a passion for timeless architecture that serves people, place, and community. She loves the problem-solving side of design, especially turning ideas into spaces that feel meaningful, accessible, and built for real life.

Outside the office, Vishnu is usually creating something, whether it is painting, sketching, photography, caring for plants, or making Indian snacks and sweets for friends and family.

Fun fact: she met her husband for the first time at Iowa State University, even though they grew up just 10 minutes apart back home. Destiny? We think so.

We’re so excited to have Vishnu’s curiosity, creativity, and spark on the Emergent team.

Please join us in welcoming Bryan Kubik to Emergent Architecture as our new Market Leader for Eastern Iowa. 🙌

Bryan brings more than 30 years of experience across banking, construction, and the AEC industry, plus a strong reputation for building relationships, opening doors, and helping ideas move from “what if?” to “let’s make it happen.” Many in the Corridor may know him from his time with Knutson Construction and Conlon Construction, where he helped lead meaningful projects and partnerships across the region.

At Emergent, Bryan will focus on growing our presence throughout the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Corridor, strengthening relationships, and helping create new opportunities across Eastern Iowa. He knows this market, he knows the people, and he understands that great projects start with trust.

Outside of work, Bryan enjoys fishing, golf, and serving his community, including his involvement on the YMCA board. He is also a loyal sports fan, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, Dallas Cowboys, and Edmonton Oilers.

We are excited to have Bryan on the team as we continue building relationships, shaping communities, and creating spaces that serve real life across Eastern Iowa.
