It’s Fire Safety Week, and as the temperatures start to dip, Stanley Electric wants to ensure your home stays warm, cozy, and completely safe!
Did you know that home heating equipment and electrical failures are two of the top leading causes of residential fires during fall and winter? Fortunately, most heating and electrical hazards are easily preventable.
Here is your quick Fire Safety & Heating Checklist for this week:
Heater & Space Heater Safety:
Keep 3 Feet of Clearance: Give space heaters, radiators, and furnace vents at least 3 feet of breathing room away from curtains, furniture, and bedding.
Plug Space Heaters Directly into the Wall: Never use extension cords or power strips with space heaters—they can overheat and create a major fire hazard.
Turn Them Off: Always shut off space heaters when leaving the room or going to sleep.
Electrical Safety Checks:
Test Smoke & CO Detectors: Press the test button on every floor. Replace batteries or upgrade to 10-year sealed units (especially important when running heating equipment!).
Check Arc Fault Protection: Ensure your breaker panel has AFCI (Arc-Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection to catch dangerous sparking before a fire starts.
If you notice burning smells, flickering lights, warm outlets, or a breaker that keeps tripping when your heating kicks on, don't ignore it!
